The Shattered Sons

Overview

Technically one large country whose name has been lost to time, the Shattered Sons are three independent territories which comprise the Elven lands. These three territories include Zampogna, El'Gardel, and Cantiivilan. Each is locked in a perpetual season, Zampogna in spring, El'Gardel in summer, and Cantiivilan in autumn.

History

Long, long ago, the northern region of Lain-Lethor was a temperate and peaceful place. But when four sons of a vengeful king angered a powerful entity, She shattered the land and time itself as punishment. Those who lived in one region could not travel to another without suffering dire consequences, and each region was locked in a state of one perpetual season. Elves died off in the wintry region (now the large upper portion of Kintok) in droves, finding it inhospitable to all but the hardiest of them (the Drow). The rest established their own ways of life within spring, summer, and autumn, eventually naming them Zampogna, El’Gardel, and Cantiivilan respectively. A few centuries later, Kintok had differentiated itself as a predominantly human and human-adjacent country. Hardy humans, halflings, and gnomes had managed to homestead into the abandoned frigid areas of the north, finding kinship and interbreeding with the Drow. This resulted in the characteristic Kintoki white hair and sixth finger on each hand. A unique language, culture, and monotheistic religion centered on a death god, PONOROS, had taken root. Seeing this, the warmer Elven countries (Zampogna, El'Gardel) moved to reannex Kintok into the Elven lands. Cantiivilan, which had become close allies with this new country, objected, beginning the War of the Seasons. The countries who considered themselves allies of Cantiivilan began lending aid - Perch and the Outer Reaches - prompting Borea-Malun and Collome to more explicitly align with Zampogna and El'Gardel. These two groups formed the Dark and Light Courts, respectively. With the War of the Seasons over and Kintok victorious, the Courts continued on. But when the Five-Point Authority took power and the Courts fell, the Elven nations retreated into total isolation. Some still have backdoor contact with the outside world, but on paper, no elf would associate with those outside of the Shattered Sons.
