Chasm (KAZ-uhm)

Overview

Chasm is the largest city in Borea-Malun. It borders its eponymous Chasm on the edge of The Outer Reaches, and most of the settlement is built into the red cliffs. One of the oldest cities on the continent, it has a thriving economy (and large criminal underbelly). The geothermal activity from the Chasm is used to power contraptions, the likes of which don’t appear anywhere else in the world. Though medical care and safety is wanting, the mechanical technology here is second-to-none. There’s also a strong sense of community here, resulting from the city's relative isolation from the rest of the Core Lands. While on the surface, Chasm is a jewel in the crown of the Five-Point Authority, resentment for the regime boils just under the surface. Contact with their orc neighbors across the Chasm is not common, but most Chasmites would sooner trust an orc than any creature from Fallot or Twin Point.

Leadership

A strong but eccentric quarterling with a penchant for crazy ideas, Valori Fritz is widely liked in the city of Chasm. She often stands in opposition to the Five-Point Authority, and therefore is disliked by its supporters. Strangely, Lord Alamæus seems to have a healthy diplomatic relationship with her - perhaps there’s more to the city’s resources than he’s letting on. Lady Fritz is not the most politically gifted, but she makes up for it with mechanical know-how and unrefined chutzpah. Her son Arnold is a bit less adventurous and handles much of the day-to-day political work, although he's not yet of ruling age.
