Cantiivilan (CAHN-TEE-VEE-LAHN)

Overview

Cantiivilan, the Dying Kingdom, is (as the name suggests) a land in a perpetual state of dying. But that’s not to say it isn’t beautiful. The trees here are the tallest of any in Lain-Lethor, and due to the construction of treetop villages, many young elves from Cantiivilan have never seen the ground. Fires blaze to maintain warmth, while the red and orange fallen leaves are woven into clothes. Many elves from this area have red or reddish hair, simply due to years of needing camouflage. Speaking of which, the beasts from the Regions Above prowl on the ground below, some so large as to be unbelievable. A culture of contest and strength rose up around Beastslaying. No one knows why the elves moved up, up, up— was it the beasts, the many centuries of fallen leaves, the lack of sunlight? Did the elves’ movement allow the beasts to grow, or was it their fearsome size that drove them up in the first place?

Leadership

The control of Cantiivilan, unlike the other Elven nations of Lain-Lethor, is won exclusively by merit. Beastslaying trials determine the land's premier warrior, who is then invited (expected, even) to take the seat of power. The title of nobility is Lord or Lady, and the ruler is referred to as the Elvenking or Elvenqueen. They will lead an elite Beastslaying guard, as well as oversee diplomatic relations with other countries, until they either abdicate or lose a challenge for the throne. The current leader, Lord Dementiel Lixil, was born in view of The River to Nowhere. One of the last trees in Cantiivilan before the river bordering Kintok was his home, and as such, his best friend growing up was a Kintoki human (who was killed before age 20 by the Five Point Authority). Those humble beginnings ended when he became a Beastslayer, and quickly rose in the ranks to become the ruler. He has ruled for only eighty years, but the years before gave him ample time to consider breaking his elven brethren’s isolationist tendencies. He has formed something of an alliance with Kintok. He is the newest leader out of the three Elven nations.
