Facet
a world between worlds
There is no travel into or out of Facet.
There is only stumbling across a forgotten trail, or slipping between the planes in sleep, or losing your way so spectacularly that you find a world with no entrance. The lands of Facet do not spin on a celestial body like Toril; rather, they exist in a wrinkle between the varied worlds of the multiverse, a crossroads of all manner of strange and terrible things.
Facet exists primarily in two cardinal directions: the East and the West. To the far North, the world fades into a white mist, sloping ever-downward along the River to Nowhere. To the far South lies the Edge of the World, a goliath waterfall overlooking a canyon obscured in mist - perhaps the same mist as that of the North. Circumnavigation is impossible, though a few explorers have claimed to find a means from the far West back to the central Greater Pass.
However you arrive, there are many lands within which to further lose yourself.
Xamas is the largest continent yet discovered in Facet, centrally located such that most travelers find themselves here first. Below the Greater Pass that connects the eastern Cold Ocean to the western Boiling Ocean, the ruins of Khatamakasar lie in a vast desert. Just south of this desert is the great city of Miksil, a bustling capital that welcomes travelers from other lands - and other worlds. Xamas is home to many other fascinating countries, including: Poryal, the land of storms; Daya'nahtum, the redlands; Hakusa, forest of ghosts; Ellth's many lakes; and the mountainous region of Iru.
Lain-Lethor, the northernmost continent, is also home to a diverse group of creatures and cultures. Due to its placement off the beaten path of interworld travelers, many rare and reclusive species are native to the area (e.g. herds of centaur in the south, Kintoki humans in the north). An authoritarian government has seized control of much of Lain-Lethor in recent centuries, cutting off trade and travel with Xamas except in extreme cases. Despite this, the general life of the populace is a pleasant one.
The small continent of Apresdas lies off to the West in the Far Sea, a long sailing across the Boiling Ocean from both Xamas and Lain-Lethor. It is an eclectic land of strange and powerful happenings, almost fabled in the lands toward center. Some seek adventure and fortune here, and still others seek to set off into the unexplored regions from Apresdas' westernmost shores. Due to its location, Apresdas' populace is isolated and knows little of the larger world.
Ullt is an island in the East, even smaller than Apresdas. Those who travel there do not return.
