The city’s main trade is its rich ore, gems and stone found in its extensive mines. It also exports large quantities of fine crafted goods made by the populace. Dun’Vol has some small farms for roots and mushrooms underground, and a little farmland outside its walls, but most of the city's food is imported. Dun'Vol also controls the Durin Straight, a tunnel used for trade that travels through the Iron Mountains, the only safe passage between Osirin and Elderan since the creation of the Deadwatses.Geography:
Dun’Vol is primarily built underground, beneath the Iron Mountains. It comprises three massive circular rings carved into the earth, each layered on top of each other and each connected by a network of tunnels. Outside the city, on the external hillsides there is some farmland as well as a few goat herds. Dun’Vol is split into three districts and the mines, these districts are layered, built on top of each other and descending deeper into the earth. Each layer is connected by multiple tunnels, stairways and elevator shafts.First Ring:
This level is mostly businesses, it is what most visitors to the city see, entering through the ring's massive metal door that connects Dun’Vol to the outside world. Almost any goods and services can be found on this ring, from jewellers to brothels.Second Ring:
This level is mostly housing, filled with stone buildings that are built in orderly concentric circles and connected by a network of streets. The eastern part of this ring also houses the Seat of the Stoneborn, the royal palace and the Dun’Vol royal court.Third Ring:
This level is mostly industry, from metalwork to stonework, filled with great forges and smelteries. The Third Ring is commonly associated with the near constant ring of hammer against metal.Mines:
