the kaff-hallberg war

What started as a local uprising in heligoland. When prince Hugo trued to remove his brother the emperor from power Michael kaff responded with violence truing the verainberg empire into two with those loyal to Hugo and thousands loyal to kaff and his royalists.

The Conflict

Prelude

background-the verianberg navy had been neglected by the government and the men which ran it were no much happier. heligolanders had been refused a similar status to magara or mortjza. admiral christian ruger was the highest ranked heligolander in the empire had practically commanded the long neglected navy. he wished for his people to have a voice. he gathered supporters. the marine corp were made up of local men and the navy was made almost fully of heligolanders. in the rest of the empire wide spread reform was crying to be held. the szlski Constitution had shone meany that refrom was possible. milliatry refrom was also wanted. in the wake of the May Day coup the impieral family found itself in a shakcy postion. the corwn kasier would not join the goverment of the realm for another two years and know archduke Fredrick and prince hugo formed a group beleiving that they should be incharge. kaff and his ISA had total control of the goverment and wished to place the crown kaiser back incharge. this angered hugo and fredirck and resement grew between the two men who had been the closest of brothers.    Kaff began naval build up. he soon had around 50000 men marines and other troops. he also had almost complete control of the navy apart from a squadron of ships loyal to admiral Micheal kaff .the stage was set.   hugo plans his attack-despite being heir to his brother prince hugo know his pagan magaran brother Micheal kaff would manuvour his own chose of heir Hugo's nephews into place. many other lords had a mistrust of michael and man senior officers in the the army of the crown felt the same way. he started i the east along the magaran boarder. the 17th corp and 19th corp commanders had studies with hugo.

Deployment

prince hugos army was made up of mostly the army of the crown and army of the frontier. most of the general were also from the crown land. it had around 400000 men served in the army at the time of the beginning of the war. as Hugo was supported by many germnic lords he had a core of germnic infantry. through his cousin archduke Fredrick hugo was able to win the support of the king of frank and his army who would move to help him adding 250000 troops to the hallsberg rebels.   Micheal kaffs forces number at around the same number of troops to start of the war. mainly his forces came from magara and some areas for east of the empire. he also had the support of The impiral security agency and the army of faith. alot of forces who were loyal to Michael were also in the north fighting christian ruger and his rebeles.   the rebel heligolands had at the start of there uprising around 30000 men. most of the navy 1 battleship 2 cruisers and 20 smaller vessels. they also had in hellslanding 3000 under ground troops.

The Engagement

1YBCW-the heligoland uprising began in winter at the city of hells-landing. the 3000 under ground soldiers attack the local garrison. The main garrison and the police retreated to the inner city. then 2000 marines attack the loyal 42nd grenadiers regiment barracks in the city. the battle lasted into the morning and by the end only 40 men of the grenadiers were left. the imperial Governor Gerhard shroober was hung by a lamp post and christian ruger was appointed intern prince president of the duchy of heligland. across the Duchy loyalist barracks were being attacked and over run. in the far northern General Gordred Ottosson was ambushed by 7 diffrent armies and his force of 7000 was total wiped out. The 7th corp commanded by general Mattius barnbourug was seeing rag tag units rushed to there main camp on the boarder. When the provisional army attack the 7th corp they where stopped. a shock wave was sent through the imperial court.there main naval bases were know cut off. the garrison forces in the north number around 30000 and there were almost all lost. when news came that the 7th corp had been forced from there stations by the heligoland provisional army and scrat war beasts. this meant that there was no loyal forces in heligoland. the imperial government was out raged. an invasion plan was created. with what little naval forces they had they would land troops in the north of the region this would force them to put troops to the north. they would then send the magara 3rd army to attack in the south forcing troops south. then the imperial 1st army would force its way behind the heligoland forces facing the magara to the south and the naval invasion in the north.   Northern landing- in the dead of night an advanced guard of 400 men landed at the town of Hugan. the rear admiral was alerted and worrying that he was going to be defeated sent 20000 men north. they attack the landing force which know numbered 4000. the imperial army forces with drew to pre made defenses and readied for siege. the heligoland marines brought up artillery but there forces mainly militia troops couldn't break the hardened lines of the professional soldiers. after 6 week a further 5000 professional soldiers had arrived and forces the rebels away. the first phase of the operation was complete.   southern invasion- the magaran 3rd army lead personally by Micheal kaff had a harder time. the defenses on his invasion rout had been strengthened with fresh troops. theese rebels had made defensive positions including trench and readouts which they nicknamed the Fengier line. the magarans were forced to fight costly battles to take every strong point. they lost 5000 men in the hard fighting but they were able to drew the small rebel army into a battle at atinborg. they were able to bring there heavy guns to bear something the heligolanders couldn't. the battle resulted in 2000 dead on both sides. but as the magarans chased there enemy they ran head long into scrat war beasts forcing them to retreat. this gave the rear admiral to re asses the situation. he decided to use the seasons to his advantage in the magaran army invasion rout the rain would turn the mainly dirt roads into swamps. in the north he could contain the naval invasion. and he had enough reserves to hold off another invasion.   blood bath at kergon- the third invasion was met with nothing but disaster. The verianberg imperial army high command had wildly underestimated there enemy. the first army made up of manly green soldiers met the full wight of the rebel army at the battle of kergon. the first army 40000 strong met a force 30000 strong. the young general Rudolf falginhof heisted for to long and allowed his enemy to make the first move. He was a typical example to noble privilege. He was only 24 years his father had been a general of limited ability and his son was no different. deicedartillery to bombard the weak positions of the enemy attacking at the village of kugen. they smashed there way through the 2nd venomhall regiment made up of men from the lands of House vermont of venomhall. regimentinfantrythree thrownweakenedhis army was breaking his only logical choices was to retreat but he wasn't willing to do so instead he took his only professional unit the 5th imperial guards and through them at the line. they were able to push back the rebels slightly but this only resulted in them getting cut off. by the next day the imperial army had lost 4000 men dead and 7000 deserted. the rebels on the other had had lost only 1000. the battle continued but it was more or less over. Rudolf was found the next day dead assassinated by his own officers. the battle of kugen ended the first phase of the war and fighting would start again until the winter freeze. the magaran army was able to push a little further into rebel territory but no major gains were made but soon this uprising would lose it significance due to the beginning of The twin sultantes civil war       Hugo's rebellion 1YDCW-While winter dragged on prince Hugo the emperors brother decided it was time to get rid of him. He had been gathering support. Most of the government and parts of the army joined him he also had the support of the franks. All of his allies would call him emperor but only after he had won the war. So at the start of spring Hugo personally led the frontier army to remove the emperor from power. Kaff however heard of this and station 2000 ISA troops to protect the city and the emperor. he had went back to the capital for the winter to be with his pregent wife and to see his brother. However he knowing his brother hugo was going to try and get rid of there brother gathered support. He found support from mortzjia and his Provence of Magara. He ordered the imperial army in heligoland to stay were it was and took his magaran 3rd army to the frontier to fight Hugo and his frontier army. on the march south Michael linked up with men loyal to himself and 2 more magarn army corps. A total of 300000 men clashed in the fielded of sellindorf a village on the frontier imperial estate road. Hugo had the upper hand. His army was larger and he had more cavalry. But not known to Hugo, Michael had taken 15 scrat war beasts. In the early hours of the morning frontier army artillery opened fire. The first volleys killed hundreds but when the Magarans were alerted they took to there defenses. Over the next few hours several probing attack were launched by Hugo a forced. by lunch time however his men had grown tired. This was when Michael ordered his scrat war beast to attack the right flank along with his cavalry and his heavy infantry. This shattered the frontier army’s right flank and the magarans has half surrounded there enemy. Hugo retreated towards the Frankish broader where his allies were swearing that they would take his half brothers head.     Pro hugo uprising- In the impiral capital dissent was brewing. many people were supporters of prince hugo. the local garrison held loyalty were with hugo. so after a month of war with hugo the city garrison revolted against Michael and attacked the ISA troops. the imperial palace was attacked first. Michael's trusted ally Janos Rall Andras was the city commander and was the man who raised the alarm and ordered his men to take up there rifles. ISA troops were as good as the army and running street battles resulted in the ISA throwing the rebels into there barracks and placing them under siege.    The empire was dived. The imperial army was split roughly in half, half swearing loyalty to the emperor the others to Hugo. But still this war was dwarfed by the civil war in the twin sultanates. the Frankish army arrived in force. they link up with the 1st army of the rebels. The rebels set up there capital at albrecthiem. the rebel command immediately took charge of the weaker Frankish army. this army occupied the strategically and symbolically important city of riechsdorf. along the entire new frontline battle began. in the south the lord of mortizja drove north and east attempting to knock out the support of those in the bron and draw the frontier army home to the defenses of it own territory. a force lead by Michael himself retook the reichensdorf in The battle of reichensdorf and forced the weak units of The Royal Frankish Army into retreat. This forced archduke Fredrick the emperors cousin into retreat with what small amount of troops he had.   2YDCW and the magaran revolution-as the new year dawned the rebels decided to consolidate there position. with reichensdorf in loyalist hands the rebel had lost the opportunity to gather strength in the north. archduke Fredrick who had know lost his holdings was given the command of the newly formed Northern theater. he was given the take of defending what was left of the rebel territory there. but as winter set in after December the previous year trains arrived with 20000 fresh rebel troops from the south. in the south the situation had been stabilized but they couldn't move any further. so prince hugo decided to strike in the south. they should drive there way north west along the great lake take the imperial summer estate and threaten the loyalist rear lines. for this Hugo gathered 100000 men and placed them in three armies. the first army would strike along the coast of the great lake. the second would protect its flank while the 3rd made a supporting attack to push the loyalist south and allow the two armies striking east to move easier. as the early spring rains stopped Hugo attacked. he sent forward ork and goblin wolf riders, spider riders and drouge riders. they terrorized the villages and towns and attacked the loyalist 7th magaran corp. hugo personally leading the 1st army smashed they apart taking 2000 prisoner. they pushed on without incensed till the end of march. south the 2nd army had seized supplies and weapons which where being stock piled. by April the 3rd army had prevented a scratch force of 20000 loyalist from counter attacking.   in magara andrey loki and the working people of the kingdom rose up in rebellion. crown kaiser gediminas franz Joesph hallsberg had been in telta and hadd been speaking with the leaders of the elven comunity when word had come rioters had stormed the barracks.   battle of the Imperial Estate- by April Michael had gathered 70000 men. veterans of reichensdorf these men where not afraid unlike the green soldiers which hugo had been facing. he also knew he needed a proper victory against his brother so he marched on the imperial estate knowing the regional road and rail links lead to the estate. the two armies met April 14th and hugo's army forced Micheal from the filed. despite this victory Hugo was forced to stop as Michael strengthened his regional defenses. the resulting stalemate in the south meant that the offensive had to happen somewhere else.
Siege of Reichensdorf- Archduke Fredrick had gathered his strength over the spring and when he heard that prince hugo had been halted he deiced to take things into his own hands and without authorization planed an offensive to take back reichendorf. the archduke a proud man who had up until reichensdorf had an unblemished military reputation was determinant to take the city back saying 'if we cannot have the city then we shall burn it to the ground.' over the spring he gathered 57000 men from across rebel territory. he gathered some 400 guns and planned his advance. his plan was to out flank the city on all sided and starve it out. the north had been depleted by Michael so he could gather forces for a counter attack in the south so what was facing him where 45000 men under the command of Ivan Doranovic. he was 80 years old and infirm. his chief of staff Baron Luther vallenstine of Cerdoff (born 42YBCW) (cerdoff being a barony in walchindorf.) was there for left in piratical charge. his nephew the prince of walchindorf was a major in the army and had taken 4000 men from walchidorf for the rebels. with the prince came his former bodyguard a major general by the name of Ernst Rommel. Archduke Fredrick began his offensive April 27th his army of 57000. Ivans forces spread thin around the army where smashed. his main thrust came on the western flank. he encircled Ivan's army. Luther drew men from the east to try and counter attack. at the battle of Weichselbaum 12000 loyalist where defeated. Ivan who had taken command of the force was killed along with baron Luther. almost all of the senior command where killed leaving prince Ferdinand and Major general Rommel where left. the two assumed command of what was left of the army. but know Fredrick was out flanking them in the east. Rommel the more senior commander ordered all men to withdraw. they took the main road to Reichensdorf and moved as fast as they could. Frederick was faster though and he split prince Ferdinand from Ernst's forces. the young prince and 10000 men where forced to take a different rout. ernst and 21000 men got to the city a week later and ordered the cities defenses readied. Ferdinand retreat 10 miles away planning a counter offensive but Fredrick predicted the young princes action and prevented him from linking up and preventing a total encircle meant of the city. two days later the city was surrounded. ernst who had graduated top of his call in defensive warfare readied the city. he was willing to wait it out and his men where willing to do the same. however the shells soon began to fall. outside the city Ferdinand tried to gather more men but was unsuccessful. he sent letters and riders to all senior commanders in the region and in the south but nobody replied. the war in the south had to take priority. he sent word home asking for 3 fresh regiments to be raised by the local authority. his first attempt to relive the city was a week after its encirclement. he lunched three simultaneous attacks. he was able to penetrate into the siege lines but after three days his attacks where staled. he was forced to turn around and retreat. but this fact showed Fredrick that he had bring in a siege expert. the man he summoned was general Hans Ditrecht born 76YBCW.
frankish leave the war and the dawn of the red republic the war raged on both side knock chunks out of each other and it was the Frankish army that was hit the hardest. this was seen in The battle of reichensdorf. this defeat provoked the frankish revolution. this inspired the far left organisation in magara to raise up. there leader andrey loki proclaimed the magaran red republic in September . eminently the church and the nobility were attack by far left bands of worker milltia. the old faith/the elven religion militias know as the army of faith tried to fight back against these militia bands but were only able to hold onto the churches. Michael heard about this via telegraph and pondered. if he moved his forces to deal with the revolution in magara prince hugo and his allies would smash apart what forces he would station to hold the line. Even worse was that If he lost his allies could turn sides and could give the Sejm reason to join the rebels. so Michael had to find support. t   loyalist counter attack and the crwon aksiers death -With the revolution destroyed and the Frankish army going home to fight the revolution in there home Michael believed it was time for a counter attack. he first ordered his forces in heligoland to smash apart the rebellion. this made the hallsberg commanders believe that the loyalist were planning an offensive in the north.   in the south the first place which had to be relived was reichensdorf which was being held by major general Ernst Rommel and his stalwart garrison. the 18 year old Prince Ferdinand Litchenberg 1st who had gallantly been fighting to save the major general was promoted to full general and given 10000 fresh men. he and a second general would strike at both sides of the siege lines and by mid April the city was relived. Ernst Rommel and his garrsion where showed with rewards. Rommel was promoted to Field marshal and was given an imperial sword the symbol of high military rank and nobility. for the rebels it was a deisator. archduke Fredrick and 12000 men where able to retreat but General Hans Ditrecht was catured along with 12000 rebels. 7000 rebels where dead and another 5000 retreated in a different direction.   the frontier kingdom was invaded but troops of general ivan miklos marching south from walchindorf after a long and difficult march through the drakenfell mountains, forcing the army of the frontier home to tackle it. the advance through the drakenfell mountains was difficult for Michael forces and the attrition rate was bad. men died trying to haull guns up the steep mountain paths And fighting rebel troops. the frontier army were only able to stopped them after they had out moved there supply lines. with in a week hugos forces had lost 100000 men dead wounded and missing forcing him to buy mercenary and train militia units to pug the gap. this provoked hugo to attack the capital as kaff had withdrawn troops for his offensive. the ISA evacuated the emperor and took him to safety. the capital soon fell but this was holo. the rebels had lost large amounts of territory in a short amount of time. the frontier army had been separated from the rebels and were fight a battle for survival. it was this time that an unlikely arrival came to Michael's HQ. the emperor Charles wanted to do his part despite his illnesses. Michael made him quarter master of the 12th magaran infantry corp. but for know Michael had to stop and consolidate his victory         duchy of Szlski response-while the war rage the sejm rubbed it hands. they had sent 30000 troops to help the Frankish royal family but they hadn't sent troops to either prince hugo or Micheal kaff some members of the parliament said they would help hugo. They were the bastion of conservative interests and security for the empire. many argued that Michael was the bastion of duty and honor a true honer bound soldier who kept his oaths and was willing to do what had to be down for the empire even if that meant keeping the emperor on the throne. however there involvement in the Frankish made the situation difficult as the kaffs were not supported by the Frankish royals. this kept them out of the war.       the war for the frontier kingdom 2YDCW   erich keroi and his army of the frontier had been forced into it home. the magaran 2nd army numbering 100000 men was marching south and the mortjzia army was marching north to help there allies. so erich devised a plan. he should send a small part of his force south to draw away the mortjzia taking with them the isolated Rebel 7th corp. this left erich with an army of 100000 men to face the 170000 strong 2nd magaran army facing them. as the second army advanced through the frontier kingdom they began to encounter stiffer resistance. a 4 day cavalry battle was fought near the town of morvetsia. magaran hussars and other light cavalry battled the frontier cavalry. ending in a frontier victory. however the over whelming magaran army soon pushed aside the troops facing them. erich however was drawing them into a tarp the magaran army was drew into the black forest where the frontier army could ambush them. the battle for the black forest lasted for 5 week. the magaran army was trapped and confused and took thousands of calculates. when they eventually broke out they were to weak to advance on the frontier kingdom capital. in the south erichs 30000 strong force had drawn the mortjizan army towards the large rebel 1st army and it was sent home allowing erichs army to return home. with these troops erich was able to counter and force the invaders out. seeing that he was loosing ground Micheal kaff ordered 50000 reinforcements to the second army .part of these force was 14th magaran lancers who were responsible for destroying frontier villages.   3YDCW trues with frank and destruction of the rebels- wishing to keep the frankish army out if the war Micheal kaff sent an envoy to the the high conical of the frankish republic. the republic would fight the Frankish army to make sure it doesn't support the hallsberg rebels. Michael and his loyalists would recognize the new government in frank. he also requested for the queen and princes to leave for the duchy of Szlski where they would become lords in the loyalist parts of the lands of the crown. the conical agreed and the war in the north ended so that the army attacking the royals in the north and allowed the queen and princess to leave. this forced the surrendered of the Frankish northern forces. after another mouth of fighting the republican army was officially declared. the frankish army however know had no meany there royals were guest of there enemy's. so after 5 mouths of unorganized fighting the Frankish army surrendered to the republic ending the revolution. seeing his only allied defeated Hugo knew it was know or never. he launched his army's in an all out attack. from his power base in the in the capital he march toward reichensdorf. his cousin archduke Fredrick who was in the south with 60000 troops would guard his rear against attack from mortijza. in the east from the duchy of caltonberg the pro-Hugo magaran general benidict hortho would take some 30000 and attempt to take the imperial estate. his armies was the tried reminisces of the frontier army and large parts of the army of the crown. they initially made success. general Benedict was able to lay siege to the imperial estate, the frontier army pushing there invaders out of there land. but this soon cracked. the loyalist army's smashed apart the attacking forceing crossing the river to reach reichendorf. by late winter the capital was back after 2 year of rebel control. soon the rebels were crammed into a small pockets. archduke fredrick was placed under siege with 1600 men at hegohoven, hugo's ally erich keroi had made peace with Michael. Hugo having only 30000 men left decided allowed them to surrender and go home. he and his followers along with 20 loyal solider made there way to the sultans boarder but the 14th magaran lancers redeployed from the frontier found them and killed all of them. this ended the conflict.   the only thing left was to destroy the heligoland rebel. there leader had been killed in the fighting and know the region was ruled by a council. in early February the loyalist army stormed across the boarder and after only 1 mouth of fighting the rebels were destroyed.
