GHG Session 37: Quilted Northern
General Summary
Month 1, Week 1, Year 919
Resting beside the Teardrop for the night, the party woke to beautiful winter weather and the soothing effects of the lake's healing properties. Taking advantage of the clear skies, Zan'kiri had Windred flown hundreds of feet above the Koulan Forests to scout out any signs of Ownka's lizardfolk camp. She couldn't spot any strongholds, but she did notice a decent-sized logging camp a few miles south. Beguiler spent the time roasting chestnuts with Thranoslav and searching the Teardrop for any signs of lizardfolk, discovering a handful of spears looking like they were tossed into the water in a hurry. The party soon learned what the hurry was about: a couple hours later they discovered the ruins of a lizardfolk camp, tents smoldering with flames and lizardfolk eviscerated by terrible body blows. Putting her newfound Cap of Intellect to good use, Ysmyrelda investigated the ruins and found some spare gold pieces and a crudely-drawn map of the region. But a ripped piece of fabric etched with a fleur-de-lis symbol made her start trembling with rage, definitive proof that Theo Vechian was near and causing ever more harm to the world. Once the camp was thoroughly explored the Fortunate Five continued heading south, running into the Sardivelian logging camp that Windred had spotted earlier in the day. A woman named Clara Matarella introduced herself as head of the timber operation, offering the group generous amounts of gabagool so long as they stayed on the edge of camp. Reetma tried and failed to lie about the party's profession, but when Clara learned that they were adventurers she said she knew some people who'd be interested in the party's assistance if they needed the extra work. That night the party rested near the logging camp, Ys getting the pleasure of watching Xa'kara join the team by falling straight on top of Zan'kiri. Kyoko Hara had spoken with the group earlier in the day about hiriing another adventurer from the Gilded Hecat Guild to help out the team in the forests, with Loopmottin handling Xa'kara's teleportation north with only minor injuries. The two ended up all right, and once introductions were out of the way the only person really miffed about the whole incident was Frogina. But the party continued on its journey south, quickly dispatching with a troupe of bandits who tried to pull the old broken carriage routine on a hardened criminal like Ys. The highwaymen were viciously murdered by Beguiler's ranch elemental and incapacitated by Reetma's quick movements, leaving the party with plenty of time to interrogate the surviving members. They learned that one of the bandits named Takagihad turned to a life of crime to pay off the ransom on his wife and daughter from a gang in the Kiri Remnant known as Dynamite Roll, a story that proved sympathetic enough for the party to spare his life and give him money to help free his family . Or maybe it was the fact that Takagi gave them plenty of useful information about where to find Ownka's camp in the forests that allowed him to leave with his life, telling the party to head south for two days until they reached the so-called 'White Forest' then marching east for a day to reach the camp. Content with this new info and all the other bandits murdered, the party continued on its warpath through the forests.
