Central Hull

The Central Hull is the “spine” of the Ark. It has a bow and a stern. The hull is divided into sectors designated Η1 ("eta-one") to Η8, from fore to aft.   There are Transport Tubes running the length of the hull to speed fore-aft travel.

Geography

The Central Hull has an overall length of 320 km, width of 16 km, and depth of 24 km.   A typical hull sector has 10 levels that are accessible to the crew, numbered from top to bottom. Longitudinal Transport Tubes run the length of the Central Hull at Levels 2 and 9, and there are Transport Tubes to the Biospheres that are nearest the Central Hull. Service Areas are located at the termini of the Transport Tubes. Elevators connecting the levels are located near the Service Areas and elsewhere as needed.   Some hull sectors may differ from this typical layout.
