Transport Tubes

A Transport Tube is an extremely long tubular corridor that is used to travel between various parts of the Ark - biosphere to biosphere, biosphere to Central Hull, or along the Central Hull ("longitudinal").   When a person steps on the green circle at one end of the tube, they are levitated into the air and accelerated down the centre of the tube. Characters without the zero-g skill make a Routine [10] AGI (acrobatics) check, on failure fall to floor and fail to go anywhere. After once succeeding, this check never needs to be made again.   They “float” at high speed, head-first. Near the far end they decelerate and stop at the green circle on the far platform. Characters without the zero-g skill make a Routine [10] AGI (acrobatics) check to land on their feet. After once succeeding, this check never needs to be made again.   Most Transport Tubes are about 15 km long; some are double that length. It takes about ½ hour to traverse a 15 km tube.   Transport tubes are for crew travel. A utility cart, for example, cannot easily be moved through a transport tube.

Design

The Transport Tube has an interior diameter of 3 metres. It is entered via an airlock (not locked) from a Service Area or Hull Sector.   Near the airlock door there is a flat floor with space for several people to stand. There is a green, spongy circle 1.5 metres across in the middle of the floor.
