Sorobell Settlement in Earth PA | World Anvil

Sorobell

Sorobell is a large lumber town in what used to be Canada.

Demographics

Split between dwarves and humans, but nearly all are lumberjacks. Shops are mostly for essential goods like food, clothing, tools and supplies, and there is onle one single mechanic.

Government

Ran by Baron Sarleth. The citizens are only lightly taxed, as the revenue from lumber is quite high. The laws are fairly rudimentary, due to the remoteness of the town.

Defences

Not many. A simple spiked, wooden wall surrounds the city that is patrolled by a guard of about a dozen men at a time.

Industry & Trade

The town is ran on lumber. It is a lucrative trade, as half of the continent's plantlife was wiped out in The Apocalypse, so most of the West's lumber comes from the north. They import only what they need to survive and grow wealthy off the lumber sales. Most hope to use this wealth to eventually move somewhere else, and their place gets taken up rather quickly by those in search of a quick buck.

Infrastructure

There is one watermill on the outskirts of town.

Assets

Mostly lumber, but they also have quite the store of fuel and food. Sorobell also boasts a large array of construction vehicles used for lumberjacking.

Guilds and Factions

Sorobell serves as a small base for The Rebellion, recruiting strong lumberjacks for the cause and training them to be soldiers. This sect of the cause is ran by a man named Geisel.

There is also a small thieves guild of sorts ran by Tom Boon, known as the Vulgar Brigade, that acts as a merry little band of Robin Hoods that steal from The Redclaws. (Edit: Tom has since joined The Redclaws as the head of their Scout Regiment and now pillages the Catholics)

History

Sorobell was initially founded by a group of treasure hunters. They settled in for the winter in a valley and decided to stay there for a while after building a single cabin. They realized they had stumbled across a gold mine with these trees and started themselves up a lumber industry, artificially growing the forest out larger and larger.

Tourism

Sorobell is generally too cold and isolated for tourists, but some folk do come here to see the trees.

Architecture

One of the few settlements in the West with wooden structures. The place is built like a fortress with high walls and canopies covering most of the streets. The buildings are log cabins and the streets are paved with cobblestone. Sorobell is the spitting image of a medieval lumber town, with the exception of the snowplows, snowmobiles, large, flatbed trucks, and other assorted vehicles scattered throughout the city.

Geography

Vast forests surround the area, and the trees grow back remarkably quickly. It only takes a few years for a tree to reach full growth here, which is why they are able to harvest so much lumber.
