Damactos

Damactos is revered as a god of sorts to the people of Vinesta. His story is not a happy one, but the summation is that he, a being known as an Architect, burrowed himself firmly into the ground and built a volcano around himself as a defense mechanism to keep himself and his land safe from other Architects (see: Damactos' Descension). Some folks believe that the volcano demands sacrifice to prevent it from erupting, and Damactos is certainly not short on sacrifices. The arena makes sure of that. Despite these sacrifices, every three years or so the volcano overflows with molten lava. Fortunately, the brilliant, and arguably insane, minds of Vinesta's most esteemed engineers have figured a way around this. Carved into the sides of the volcano and down for miles across the landscape are massive overflow canals that perfectly trap the lava and send it away from the populated part of the city. There are even convenient bridges that cross these canals at even intervals so as not to interrupt the daily hustle and bustle of the city. Once the lava has hardened and cooled, teams of workers go down and clean the canals out in preparation for the next eruption.

Geography

The volcano looms high over the city of Vinesta at the edge of the Pacific Ocean. The volcano and the surrounding rock are primarily made of black basalt, painting a bleak picture on the shoreline. The volcano is hollowed out and filled with interconnecting tunnels and rivers of thick, molten lava.

History

Before The Apocalypse
, the volcano was part of what was then known as the Davidson Seamount. However, the Apocalypse took its toll on the planet, and the global ocean water levels all dropped, pushing the seamount to the surface in the process. In the two and a half centuries following the Apocalypse, a combined effort of humans and orcs carved the mountain up and used it as a home base, eventually forming an entire city around it.

Tourism

Damactos is a popular tourist destination for those filled with bloodlust. The arena built into the mountain holds a life or death game between gladiators over uncovered pits of lava, spewing and bubbling all the while. Most combatants don't survive, but there is no shortage of those wishing to prove themselves and no shortage of fans willing to watch. The best seat in the house is from Salamander's Grotto, a popular bar inside the volcano itself that sits right above the arena.
