New San Francisco
New San Francisco is the largest settlement in the Free West. It is unique in that the entire city is built within a colossal pyramid made entirely of Vinestan glass. The inside structure is held together in part by the incredible skyscrapers that stretch from ground level to the ceiling of the pyramid. The city is divided into five levels: one below ground, one at ground level, and three above. The smallest section, Upper Echelon at the tip of the pyramid, is about two square miles. The supports holding the city together are made of Vinestan steel.
Demographics
Mostly human, like much of the West, but also a large population of orcs, dwarves, moreau, and a few elves.
Industry & Trade
Despite being on opposite sides of the globe, New San Francisco is the only Free Western city that trades with the European States. It is unclear to the general populace what Europe gets out of these trades, but it is rumored that the city has access to a hidden cache of pure soul metal ore.
Districts
Undercity: the largest section of the five-tiered city. As the name implies, Undercity is underground. It's home to the majority of the city's populace as well as the city's manufacturing districts and factories. Known colloquially as the Slums, Undercity is indeed where the lower class citizens dwell in relative poverty, only surviving on the bare minimum provided by manufacturing jobs. There are a few shelters that are always filled to the brim. Bars, inns, and whorehouses make good money here by offering affordable "luxuries" like watered-down booze, dirty hookers, and shoddy rooms. Waste management systems are located down here. Plenty of predatory loan sharks and back alley dealings.
Zero Base: the ground level of the city. This is where most businesses, stores, and workshops are located. This is also the layer that holds churches, hospitals, and maintenance shops. The main entrances to the city are here at ground level.
Midtown: the first level above the ground floor. This is what the middle-class residents call home. Midtown hosts hotels, schools, police stations, libraries, and other public services. Plenty of bars, clubs, and brothels can be found here. This is also where the military and its airstrips are located.
High Rise: where most middle-class folk work. Home to classy hotels and brothels, banks, law firms, and other important businesses that need the office space. Government buildings, research facilities, and a few private business airstrips also reside here.
Upper Echelon: the top of the pyramid: home of the wealthy citizens of New San Francisco. Establishments like cafés and restaurants that charge exorbitant prices, as well as some tourist-trap locations like the planetarium and museum. Some private citizens even have their own airstrips up here.
Farmhold: a smaller pyramid located beneath the waves some three miles from the main city. The pyramid is built of Vinestan glass to withstand the pounding waves. Farmhold is a massive greenhouse and desalination plant.
Tourism
New San Francisco is home to the most renowned brothel in the West: the New San Francisco Royal Palace. Other notable locations include the Gale Planetarium, NSF Museum, and the Apocalypse Awareness Center. The military occasionally performs airshows, and, on certain holidays (such as Rebirth Day, the anniversary of the day the hell portals were shut and the Final World War officially ended), the city will shoot fireworks into the sky around the pyramid.
Architecture
The buildings in the Slums are plain and made of concrete, but the skyscrapers up above are in what we would call "modern" style with metal frames and plenty of glass windows.
Geography
New San Francisco is built overlooking the ocean. There is a steep drop off just half a mile outside the pyramid that leads down to a barren beach. There isn't much to look at around here, but the distance one can see from the upper reaches of the city can be beautiful, in their own way.
