Vinesta Settlement in Earth PA | World Anvil

Vinesta

Vinesta sits on the edge of the ocean atop a smoldering volcano called Damactos that was once the Davidson Seamount.

Demographics

Vinesta has large populations of both humans and orcs, with a smattering of dwarves.

Government

Vinesta is actually rather socialist in many ways, much like St. Forbes. The people are well looked-after and homelessness is unheard of. The major difference between the two cities is the violence seen in Vinesta. Prisoners are sent to fight in the coliseum, and trial by combat is quite popular. Every member of the society, upon turning sixteen, is required to prove themselves in a test of physical strength and endurance in order to become a legal citizen. This test is repeated every four years. Any outsider who wishes to become a permanent resident must do the same. Slavery has been abolished in Vinesta. Every citizen is expected to prove their worth to the city through hard work. Every job is viewed as important and pivotal to the society. Taxes are high, but even so, every citizen is provided with housing and receives a monthly income from the government. Physical prowess is revered here, but the sick, disabled, and elderly are provided with everything they need to survive and are exempt from the citizenship test. Every able-bodied citizen is expected to defend the city should the need arise.

Defences

There are towers spread about the outer perimeter of the city with lighthouses on the shoreline. These are all manned by a couple dozen defenders each.

Industry & Trade

Vinestan engineers have yet to give up the secret to making their glass and metal compounds, but they seem to have the ability to craft plenty of it to sell to the highest bidders. Imports, like much of the West, largely include soil and plants for their greenhouse farms.

Infrastructure

Perhaps one of the most technologically advanced assets Vinesta has is the fraal tech left here in a large spacecraft that has since been scavenged and stripped for parts. The greatest minds of Vinesta were able to reverse-engineer the tech and provide the city with virtually unbreakable glass and the ability to mold metal that cannot be melted by lava. The glass is mostly used for the racetracks, the underwater coliseum, and other ocean-based facilities such as hatcheries and underwater gardens. The metal is used to direct lava flow and defend buildings against any eruptions. The city's power comes from solar panels encased in that same unbreakable glass.

Tourism

Vinesta hosts the largest coliseums in the West, as well as the most prestigious and deadly combat racing tracks. The city utilizes the molten lava beneath Damactos as an obstacle for both the coliseum and the racing. There are also tracks that lead into the ocean in massive, fraal-tech tunnels as well as an underwater coliseum. Tourists can even venture out into the water just a few miles to catch a glimpse of a sunken aircraft carrier.

Architecture

Most of the city is carved into the black basalt around Damactos with a few crude towers and lighthouses built up around the perimeter of the city made of basalt bricks.

Geography

Black basalt coated in sand dunes. Damactos rises high above the city, an ever-present reminder of the danger the citizens face as long as they live here. A small underground river leads to the ocean, providing the city with water.

Natural Resources

Water from the river, fish from the sea, and a small soul metal vein just a mile offshore that was left by a small demonic portal.
