Hades Rift

Geography

Hades Rift is a massive crack in the earth that stretches from what was once Canada down through what was once Mexico along the Trans-Rocky Mountain fault line. There is also a smaller crack that breaks off from the main one and leads to the ocean right by New San Francisco. Hades Rift is 50 miles wide at its widest point and 13 miles at its narrowest. Water flows in from the ocean and floods the rift all the way to its end points, where the water falls deep into the earth. The north end point is an endless waterfall while the south end point is a 35 mile diameter maelstrom. Each end point is surrounded by geysers and hot pots that are constantly erupting with the water the ocean brought in. The Hades River has become the largest river on Earth.

Fauna & Flora

The depths of the Hades River are frought with all manner of foul abominations created by the evil energy emitted from the hell portal. They mostly stick to the deeper depths, but every now and then a giant shape will appear near the surface or a boat will go missing without a trace.

History

The Great Rift opened up in January 2019 CE as the largest portal to the hell dimensions, spilling forth demons, devils, and fiends of all calibers. Water rushed in from the crack in the west, but was stopped from flowing further by the portal. Then, in October 2024, the portal closed seemingly out of nowhere, taking most of its inhabitants back with it. This caused the entire rift to flood with water from the ocean, thus creating the vast river. It is unknown what caused the closure of the portal.
