Icen

The Kingdom of Icen was a sovereign monarchical power found in the Northwestern Eiren. It was one of the five states that made up the Confederation of Gothai.

Structure

At the head of Icen's state of affairs is the great Ice King/Queen, the absolute power of the nation. Interestingly, the Ice King never seems to have any advisers in their court. This is due to the Ice King/Queen bearing the Crown of the Ice Wizard, which gives them the wisdom of every previous monarch who ever reigned. Referring to the mistakes and decisions of their ancestors, the Ice King/Queen feels no need to share their decision making with anyone else. It is also not unusual for the Ice King/Queen to be inclined to use magic. The current (picture) queen, Natalia III, has been considered the most powerful wizard in the land.   Behind the Ice Queen, the nobility mostly rules over the peasantry. Icen is very feudalistic, with the nobility supplying the army and much of the economy by using serfdom on the people of Icen. Learned Wizards also have a degree of power in the land, sometimes having control over cities as jarls due to their abilities. This, unfortunately, has led to a substantial amount of corruption overcoming the land.

History

The people of Icen originally came as invading humans from the lands of Fareway, pillaging past through the lands of Lisanrik and eventually meeting the Mountain Dwarves. They got into mighty wars, until the humans allied with the tribes of Dragonborn in the region to make a small alliance and drive back the Norden Dwarves. Sometime in the second millennium, the humans would gather their remaining cities and devote themselves to the Ice King, named Nicolai, who used his powers over magic to take forceful control. Historically, this took place in 1A 2003, forming the nation of Icenglav.   The Ice Kings and Queens persisted in power for generation, with the humans starting to adapt to the enviroment with the magic around them. Creation of fire and control of the ice allowed the humans to start gaining white hair at a young age. For thousands of years, Icen became the ideal place for wizards, druids, and sorcerers to study the arcane due to the sheer amount of knowledge accumulated in the region.   However, in 5357, the nation of Norden would attack the city state of Avenve, and the Icens condemned them for this action, but also feared it's own safety. It turned to the Gothans and Danens for protection. The Great Gothain War overtook the nation, and due to plundering from the Nordens, some of it's magical knowledge was destroyed and lost forever. However, since the men of Keller and Elves of Gaelitia began attacking the frail kingdoms, the Icens began to pester the nations to stop fighting and convene at Avenve. There, the five states wished to do a temporary alliance, but the Lord of Avenve suggested a binding confederation for indefinite strength. The King of Icen, Nicolai VI, agreed to the confederation along with the other kings. Thus the Confederation of Gothai was formed. In 5377, the war would end.   Now, Icenglav proceeds to be a relatively peaceful land but unrest seems to persist with objections from the peasantry. The current Ice Queen, Natalia III, struggles to keep her people under control and worries a larger threat is looming over Gothai.

Territories

The continent of Eiren, the homeland of the Dwarves and the Elves respectively. However, it has also become the new home of human kingdoms, including those of Lysandus and Gothai. It's rich history of conflict and culture has made it a staple of visitation, as well as subject to art, songs, and theater.
The land of Icen is part of the Confederation of Gothai, respectfully. It's capitol, Fenebach, is the most populated city in the region and appears to be the only formal city in the entire kingdom. The rest of the land is scattered in villages. It is a mountainous and forested land, and extremely cold. Thus, farming and living daily life is extremely hard for the citizens. Interestingly, it's border seems to encompass part of Avenve, like the other nations in Gothai, and as such has a degree of power over the city state.

Religion

Icen is a land that is incredibly superstitious about the cold that surrounds them. The Ecepodin, the Ice Wizards as they call themselves, have been sages across the land for millennia. These humans got their magical and mystical understanding from the Dragonborn, the original inhabitants of the region. From the blessings of Bahamut (or Tiamat), the Dragonborn showed them how to control both fire and ice.   The Ecepodin would become religious leaders in the land, often serving as healers (if worshiping Bahamut), grand court mages, or even paladins devoted to Bahamut. Unlike the other lands that follow the worship of human gods, the people of Icen only worship Bahamut and nothing more. Any other worship is often purged or persecuted.
