Mountain's Shadow

Mountain's Shadow is a mysterious forest found in the western forests of Gaelitia. It is known as a sacred ground to the Elves there, for they believe it was where the goddess Brigid birthed all life. It has become the home to many fey, including the influence of the Fey's father, Bghonah.

Geography

Mountain's Shadow is an expansive forest that remains largely untouched by the elves of Gaelitia mostly because of it's sacred nature. It is right next to an old mountain, known as "Crooke", where the evening sun will rest in the horizon, causing the strange geometry of the mountain to cover it in shadow. It is next to the sea, surrounded by it in fact. Beyond that scope, the forests seem to be on top of foot hills leading to the mountain, giving it a reputation to be hard to traverse.   Often times, fresh water for the forests will come from the storms and spray of the ocean surrounding them. Rain and snow are common for the forest in the winter months. However, when Crooke's shadow passes over the forest in the winter, the temperature severely drops to temperatures not normally possible in the region. Winter, therefore, is a dangerous time to go through the forests.   It is stated by some elves that the Feywild's father, Bghonah, is the one who causes the dangerous shadows to come over the forests in order to keep the elves out. Considering the strange way the mountain's shadow points during sunset (going south instead of east), the supernatural case could very well be considered.

Fauna & Flora

Along with standard oak, pine, and other trees, the forest seems to be home to some more dangerous fauna. Mushrooms that cause people to shrink when touched, twisted carnivorous trees with branches that are used to kill people for food, and other fey-influenced plants.   There are also fey monsters in here, including Dryads, Darklings, Redcaps, Hags, and a particularly most dangerous foe, Sluagh. Legend has it that Sluagh are the spirits of sinful elves that were slain in these forests, forever doomed to haunt them. Other than that, more magical versions of creatures like unicorns, bears, etc. also dwell in these forests, feeding off the mysterious flora that grow.

Natural Resources

This is practically a gold mine for components when it comes to casting spells for the wizards of Talamh. Moonstone and moonseeds has been rumored to be hidden in these forests, so far as coating some plants with a white glisten. There are also cocoons, strange crystals, holly berries, marked sticks, magic horns, etc. Essentially, if a wizard wants to gather components for free, this is a great place. Albeit, a very dangerous one!
