Commonwealth of Drala

The Commonwealth of Drala is the largest and often the most powerful nation within the Dragon's Head Nebula. The Commonwealth is made up of ten Sectors, former Furse-Fabian Kingdoms united by the Kingdom of Daxholm. Born in the defeat of renewed Furse raids and invasions, on the shoulders of Osgar 'The Great' Gisking.   The Motto of the Commonwealth, 'Might in Defeat' is said to have come from King Osgar 'The Great' Gisking, who people said became ever more mighty in defeat then all other men in victory.

Structure

The Commonwealth is made up of dozens of stars systems of what were once the Old Furse Kingdoms of Drala.   ORGANIZATION CHART NOT AVAILABLE

Culture

The culture of the Commonwealth is a mix of Fabian and Furse, with a touch of Tutha. The Fabian Faith had long ago converted the Furse Kingdoms of Old into the fold. Although their ancestors might have once invaded from across the Nord Void, they became one with the people they conquered, and in times accepted their ways.     Unlike many nations of the Fabian Faith, the Commonwealth is made up of peoples who once held a strong warrior traditions, and culture. Although blunted by the Fabian Faith, these traditions linger on in many ways. It is said that it was the Thanes and common folk who gave birth to the dream of Osgar 'The Great' Gisking's vision of a united realm within Drala.

History

The history of the newly formed Commonwealth of Drala is based on that of the Fabian-Furse kingdoms in the Dragon's Head Nebula.   In 8,901 the Great Savage Host invaded the Furse Kingdoms of Old within the Dragon's Head Nebula. Led by the Kin of Rothgar, they arrived in the Dragon's Head Nebula to avenge the death of Rothgar by the King of Paleburn. Rothgar the famous Warlord who many claim would have united the Empire if his crew had not been slaughtered when his ship was found in distress, and Rothgar himself killed painfully.   The Great Savage Host arrived in the Kingdom on the Kingsgate where they raided and plundered worlds when the king refused to pay them tribute. Before long they moved on to the Kingdom of Furia where they made peace with the king took on supplies to invade the Kingdom of Paleburn to the north, whos king had murdered their famous kin. By 8,903 the Kingdom of Paleburn had fallen to the Great Savage Host, and it's king killed and replaced with a puppet king.   Further in 8,903 the Great Savage Host continued on to invade the central kingdom of Warwick. The world of Starholm was besieged and taken by the Great Savage Host, but in turn were besiege by a combined force of the Kingdom of Warwick and Daxholm. When the Great Savage Host proved unable to be dislodged from the world, the Kingdom of Warwick settled to pay them to withdraw.   By 8,904 the Great Savage Host was again in the Kingdom of Paleburn where they remained for the next two years before setting off to the Kingdom of Furia in 8,906 once again. While in the Kingdom of Furia, the Great Savage Host spent much time in the Rustberry System before they were attacked by the king of Furia. The Great Savage Host was able to win several victories before capturing the king, and bringing about the fall of the kingdom which had betrayed their peace agreement.   8,908 The Great Savage Host was reinforced by forces from Furse Space. The Generals Jon and Baldwin took command of the Great Savage Host who lead it into the Kingdom of Daxholm. The Marhold System is the first to fall as the Great Savage Host campaign within the Kingsgate Sector for it's control. It is within the Highburn System that the Great Savage Host suffers it first defeat at the hands of local militia units which beat the invading fleet back. These local militia are later joined by forces under the command of Queen Mildred Gisking of Daxholm, and her younger brother, Osgar Gisking.     The combined forces of Daxholm united for a push on the Marhold System, but were defeated at the world of Marhold where the Great Savage Host had lured them into a trap. The leader of the local militia which gave the Great Savage Host their first defeat is killed. Queen Mildred and Osgar are able to escape with much of their forces thanks to the knowledge of their navigators and the local jump routes. Less then a week later the two forces met once again in the Battle of Tamriel. During the battle, the Great Savage Host splits into two forces, and the Kingdom of Daxholm does likewise under the command of Queen Mildred and Osgar. Queen Mildred arrives on the world of Tamriel, and holds mass with her forces while Osgar leads his force away from the world to defend it. With the Queen in prays, and Osgar worried about being outflanked, he charges his forces alone against the closest enemy formation, and sets up a line of defense. Queen Mildred withholds her forces until the second force is committed into battle with Osgar, and acts, leading to a Daxholm victory that seems General Jon, and much of the leadership of the Great Savage Host dead, and their ships hunted as they flee.   Although some claim that the plan of the Battle of Tamrielwas always to get The Great Savage Host to commit to battle, and using faith as a poly, rumors began to swirl that Queen Mildred had betrayed her brother and his warriors.   In 8,909 after the battle the Great Savage Host regrouped on the edges of the Kingsgate System, and launched a new attack within the Sector and defeated the Kingdom of Daxholm in two battles, the last of which saw Queen Mildred injured and the Daxholm forces pushed into flight. Osgar and Queen Mildred returned tp Daxholm, where Queen Mildred died after she announced Osgar as her heir, over that of her own young children. Osgar Gisking was crowned King of Daxhom in 8,910.   While King Osgar saw to the burial of his sister the Queen, forces of Daxholm are defeated once again before Osgar takes command of a force once again and leads it against the Great Savage Host. Defeated in battle, and with the hopes of pushing the Great Savage Host out of the Kingdom of Daxholm space, King Osgar agrees to pays for peace, and to have the Great Savage Host withdraw from Daxholm space. A ten year peace is signed.   In 8,911 the Great Savage Host returns to the former Kingdom of Furia to supply and rebuild their forces. They soon returned to the Kingdom of Paleburn in the north to put down a rebellion, in 8,913. After putting down the rebellion they quickly moved on, and in 8,914 an captured the Anchorage Sector, where they launch deep raids against the Kingdom of Warwick. By the end of 8,915 the the King of Warwick had paid the Great Savage Host for peace, and granted them the Anchorage System within the Sector. By the end of 8,917 the King of Warwick had been driven into exile, and a puppet put on the throne.   The Last Kingdom   Daxholm became known as the Last Kingdom in Drala, the last Fabian-Furse nation still standing. Although peace remained between Daxholm and the Great Savage Host for a time, they suffered attack and raids several times by smaller bands of raiders on the western and southern borders. In 8,918 the Great Savage Host split into two forces. Uhtred took command of one and led it north to fight the United Worlds of Kaledon which had been raiding into the systems of the Kingdom of Paleburn. Kenrick took command of the other and headed south to shore up for a continued attack of Daxholm once the treaty had ended.   In 8,920 word reached Uhtred of the death of his brother in Eriu by dishonourable means. He sets out to avenge his brother and put down the rebellion of his brothers conquests in Eriu. Within a year The Dagda Sector falls to Uhtred. By 8,922 Uhtred had arrived back within the Kingdom of Paleburn, where he was crowned king and made grants of land to those in his service all over the Kingdoms of Paleburn, Furia, Warwick, and Dagda in what would become known as Furse Law.   Within a year, Dagda had revolted, and Uhtred was killed in battle trying to quell it. Those who survived had to fight several battles against the United Worlds of Kaledon but managed to kill their king. They returned to the former kingdom of Paleburn where they remained without a king.   Kenrick took part in a large scale raid on the Dumgarth Sector, and slipped pass several Daxholm fleets before they took the disputed system of Isca. The Furse fleet which had taken Isca was met by a fleet of King Osgar, but they withdrew from Isca in secret on learning of the destruction of their relief fleet. Kenrick withdrew to the former Kingdom of Warwick within the Furse Law.   In 8,928 Kenrick led the Great Savage Host on a quick attack of the Daxholm Sector, and caught the King unaware by slipping pass several fleets without being seen. The world of Daxholm itself was raided and King Osgar himself was forced to flee with his family. It is said they he travelled shuttle to shuttle as the Furse hunted him down. The local people of the world of Mistfall in the Fistgard System within the Daxholm Sector, sheltered and hid King Osgar. It is the world of Mistfall which began the fight to reclaim the throne and crown of Daxholm and protect his people.   In 8,933 King Osgar 'The Great' Gisking gathered a large fleet, and won a massive victory resulting in Kenrick signing a peace with Osgar, and accepting the Fabian Faith. Kenrick returned to the former kingdom of Furia where he was accepted as king of Furia but not of the Furse Law. The treaty divided the Kingdom of Warwick in two, and defacto became part of the Kingdom of Daxholm.   Although king Osgar brought a great peace and security, Furse raids didn't end with the Peace of Kenrick. Although Kenrick remained true to his word, the rest of Furse Law was leaderless, and divided as local warlords took hold of worlds and fought one another for power, and raided Daxholm yearly. King Osgar would go onto lead the Daxholm to several other victories throughout the rest of his life. He secured and fortified worlds, and became a feared enemy of those who crossed over from Furse Law.   Twenty four years after the death of Osgar 'The Great' Gisking, his grandson united the former Furse Kingdoms of Old, and was crowned the first king of The Commonwealth of Drala, uniting the Fabian-Furse kingdoms under one crown. It is Osgar though, who people remember as the First King, and the only Fabian-Furse to ever be called the Great.    The Motto of the Commonwealth, 'Might in Defeat' is said to have come from King Osgar 'The Great' Gisking, who people said became ever more mighty in defeat then all other men in victory.

The King of the Commonwealth is a member of this body, and is technically approves of each king before they can be crowned. The King of the Commonwealth also appoints each Sector-Lord on the death of the previous, who acts in the place of the King. Political murders to appoint new members can be common place.
