Bastion System

Type: System   System Population: 25.9 Billion   System and Sub-System Population: 60 Billion   Ruling House: Ashfoe   Ruler: Tobin Ashfoe   Culture: Old Blood   History: The Bastion System is the most populous system in the Dragon’s Head Nebula. It was once a minor settled system of the Tutha of Drala, but under the Fabians grew in importantence as one of the greatest systems in the south, being outdone by the Bloom System in the North.   After the Fabian Withdrawal from Drala, the Bastion System was one of the early systems to fall to the Old Blood Furse, and although it was largely abandoned, it came under the control of various minor Old Blood Kingdoms. The minor kingdoms of Sled, Grimm, and others held it until it fell into the hands of the the major Old Blood kingdoms like Furia, Warwick, Kingsgate, and Warwick.   King Gwen Redmane Aegis oversaw large resettlements of worlds throughout the Bastion Sector, among others. The Bastion System was one of those systems which saw much growth under the King of Warwick.   In 6,988 ASU, King Jem Thenn, the third person to be proclaimed High King of the Old Blood Furse of Drala built the first Fabian Temple on Bastion since the Fabian Withdrawal. In the same year High Bishop Aurora Ironmaker created the first Bishop of Bastion, the fourteen Bishop created in the Dragon’s Head Nebula founded by the High Bishop. In 7,112 ASU, King Baldwin Redmane Aegis of the Kingdom of Warwick is known to have sold the seat of the Bishop of Bastion to Bishop Oswine. More than two hundred years later King Uhtred Redmane Aegis of Warwick was known to grant several estates to loyal followers in Bastion.   In 8,978 ASU King Redmane Aegis of Warwick, and King Hildred ‘The Noble Wolf’ Gisking of Daxholm launched a joint venture, and reopened the Mint of Bastion. The mint granted much wealth to both kingdoms.   In 9,001 ASU the world and System of Bastion fell to Furse raiders when a large fleet of three hundred, and fifty warships of the line arrive in south eastern Drala. King Redmane Aegis attempted to retake the system a year later, but was defeated in battle by the Furse, and forced to withdraw back to Warwick. The Furse would abandon the system, but it would later fall to the Great Savage Host, and the children of Rothgar.   In 9,056 the Bastion System was the gathering point for a large fleet of Furse to launch fresh attacks on the Kingdom of the Salians on the word of the death of the former king of the Salians. A year later, after King Osgar ‘The Great’ Gisking defeated Kenrick ‘The Old’ Ironstone in a great battle, the Bastion System was confirmed, and ceded to the newly created Furse Law. By 9,058 the massive fleet of Furse gathering to strike the Fabian Kingdom of the Salians, and other star nations, departs.   By 9,072 King Osgar ‘The Great’ Gisking conquers the world of Bastion, and the system. In the same year he is crowned as the first King of the Old Blood, and is seen as one of the ancient High Kings which have risen up in Drala over the years. Bastion would once again fall to the Furse, and in 9,090 was heavily fortified. The system was besieged by King Osgar ‘The Great’ Gisking, and by the end of the year the Furse would withdraw from Bastion to the north, mostly to the Grimmbridge, and Sledd Systems.   In 9,283 the System-lord of Bastion fought Rodger Ash Dawn in the Battle of Malcester. Outnumbered, the System-lord of Bastion, and his personal forces fight long after their allies flee, and inflict heavy damage on Rodger Ash Dawn. Poems, and movies are written about their last stand, and although King Oswald ‘The Unready’ Gisking is forced to pay Rodger Ash Dawn off, they prevent much worse slaughter by inflicting such heavy losses on the Furse.   The system is often seen as the unofficial capital of the Commonwealth of Drala. Although the Daxholm still retains that honor, the System of Bastion is by far the largest and wealthiest, and King Oswald ‘The Unready’ Gisking holds court there.
