2023 Resolutions in Challenge World | World Anvil

2023 Resolutions

Inspirations

  • The Marcionite Catholic Church - As someone making a world based around fictionalized Christianity based on real theologies (with some of my own creative liberties thrown into the mix), I found this fascinating to see how others are taking real belief systems and turning them into fictional stories. I'll be looking more at this writer's world.
  • The Archivists - This inspired me to create a character or set of characters who are attempting to properly document world history despite popular misunderstandings of theology.
  • Kingroups and Kithweaving - I found this a fascinating read and reminded me that I have a lot of family traditions to work on for some of the groups in both of my fictional worlds.
  • Vampiric Pheromones - This is an interesting take on the interactions between humans and vampires. I enjoy seeing others' unique takes on the traditional vampire tropes because I've played with some of the tropes myself, as well. It's nice to see others tweeking such an old mythology.
  • Kajusuzûn Chimes - These were so fun to read about. The art is also gorgeous. It made me think about how I might be able to create items similar to these in my fantasy world. Not chimes, but another popular feature of certain cities or regions that are mostly decorative, or purposeful and decorative.
  • Vardan Marriages - I'm adding this one just for the simple fact that I get very excited about other writers diving into cultures with polyamorous arrangements and ideas of gender outside the binary. I love it.
  • Peach Tree Dish - I found this inspiring because it reminded me that I haven't really spent any time on foods in my fantasy world. I should definitely do that this year.
  • Mermaids - This article made me realize that I really need to focus on how mermaids fit into my world. Considering how much of my worldbuilding focuses on popular mythological beings, mermaids have a place and I need to sort it out.
  • Bādaw Slate - From this article I was inspired to start considering the artifacts and relics in my worlds and which ones might be real versus legendary.
  • Candlecarving - I found this ward against evil to be very interesting and fairly simple. I should create some methods of warding off evil spirits as well.

Worldbuilding Resolutions

  • In 2023 I will be editing one article per week. Ideally, I would like to complete one article per week, but as I have three universes, just doing some work on an article in each world every week is enough for this point in my career.
  • In an effort to treat myself with compassion, simply researching material for my worldbuilding will count as working on an article.
  • As far as Kingdom Earth goes, I will be starting the year by finishing off my angelic hierarchy completely.
  • I also plan to participate in as many challenges as I can this year.

Publishing Resolutions

  • In 2023 I plan to publish the first 4 books in my Kingdom Earth universe.
  • I also plan to publish one chapter of my high fantasy story in my Ayrith universe every week. This will be done via Tapas.
  • Along with the second point, I will be ensuring I keep additional sites up to date with new chapters, even though Tapas is the one I like most when it comes to the editor and such.

I'm also really happy to see a focus on going about your goals compassionately. I think research absolutely counts towards editing. Also, best of luck with publishing!
