WE 2024 - Fiery Promise

Hot, hot, baby!

Oh yes, it's going to be hot this Worldember because we're going to visit Layida, the Continent of Fire. So get yourself a protective suit, average temperatures of 47.2° C are not for everyone.

May the flames burn high
and the wings of the firebird show us the way!

Ok, maybe that sounded a little too enthusiastic. That's why I'm slowing down a bit and really hope that I can warm your heart with my articles during the cold season. Let's take it easy - after all, it's a cozy Christmas time.

Last year I wrote 10,083 words for the Earth continent of Brictaelgis and was happy to have reached the BBCode-free goal of 10k, although unfortunately I didn't manage to beat year's word count of 2022. I was very happy that my meadow goblins were so well received by the community and even made it onto Kitoyboy's shortlist in the ethnic category.

Since my ascendant is Leo, I want to explore the element of fire this year. I promise to write 10k words for it and maybe even do better than 2023. So the bar is a little higher again!

Focus & Mini-Meta

This year I wrote up-to-date mini-metas for each of my continents. So I'm going to make it a little easier for myself and link the fiery mini-meta article with all my thoughts, inspiration, etc. In addition, I will give articles that are related to the hot Elaqitel but have not yet been translated and/or still have the old design a makeover. If you want to get a first impression of Continent of Fire, feel free to take a look around Layida.

This year I won't present you 100 ideas either. I focus on 20 articles that I would like to work on and that could become important. I also try to include the unofficial challenges (see below) from beloved Anvils. There will be something for everyone and will hopefully give you a wonderful 360 degree view of this part of Elaqitan.

Inspirations on WorldAnvil

Finding inspiring worlds for my fiery promise wasn't quite as easy this time as it was last year, as fire often only makes up a small part. That's why I chose Chrispy_0's "Moon Izi" and Tyrdal's overview article on the fantastic Flashfire Challenge to sponsor my Worldember. I also hope to find more inspiration for the dark sides and fiery ecosystems in Mochimanoban's "Planet Hell" and in CoolG1319's world "Inferncenem".

Pitch - Primer - CSS

I won't change my elevator pitch to the world because the core of the plot or the world hasn't changed. If you start there you will see:

my introduction to the world, which I recently added to the continents with new links. I also rewrote the English version of my world poem, which wasn't easy for me. It's certainly not Goethe or Shakespeare, but at least it reads better now than the pure translation from German into English did before.

my concept of the novel, in which I added some thoughts on the genre and the later narrative style.

my design concept, which I also expanded with my quote borders. This would also bring me up to date with the preliminary CSS that I will use to write during Worldember. It's not a lot of CSS magic, but I'm very happy with the quote borders and horizontal lines since that was one of my annual goals for 2024.

Books, Movies, Moodboard, Playlist

Psst! It's all in the mini-meta and if you haven't taken a look at it yet, here's the Link again.

There is also some music in the meta, but Layida is the continent with the most musical facets, depending on the topic. That's why the playlist is colorfully mixed with African, epic, oriental and ancient sounds from Scenic Relaxion and Fantasy Meditations, among others. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a suitable video that really covers everything and also refers to volcanoes.

Gathering strength

Since my 1st Worldember 2022 you can chat with me on the WA Discord. I can mostly be found in the German chat and in the 7 Tomes chapter. I've been a little less active in the challenge chat in the last few months, but I hope to be a little more present there again during Worldember. If you would like to get in touch with me directly, you are welcome to write me a DM.
I won't set up a writing plan because I'm usually very focused when I'm working. In addition, this time I'm trying to collect and write down a lot of notes in advance so that I waste less time on research. Then all I need is my headphones and off we go! By the way, I can also take my music with me to the park, where there is a small graduation tower. If it is not too cold, salty water runs over willow branches and is good for the respiratory system.
Then there is my weekly yoga class, which is expected to include special exercises for relaxation, correct breathing and new positions throughout the month. Otherwise, I'm more of a couch potato and will allow myself a few breaks with my family to regain my strength.

Community-Specials

This year there are again some additional Anvil challenges to reach 10k words.

Start your Worldember with a trip to a natural wonder or structure for Tyrdal's 3rd part of Longest Journey, which you could also combine with Tillerz's Mapvember, and then take part in a big party at Make Lore not War and CoolG. All three challenges start in November while you complete your homework, but end on December 5th, 7th and 15th respectively, giving you plenty of time to develop great items for Worldember. But be careful! Do not start writing until December 1, 2024, otherwise these articles will not be eligible for submission to Worldember!

In addition, we welcome another two challenges that we have already come to know and love from previous years. So how about an unusual disease with fascinating symptoms for Catoblepon or a scavenger hunt through your articles for Leashea or a journey through Tillerz's 62-prompt WorldEmber?

Also a little bird tweeted to me that we can make a detour to Chapter 4 on our itinerary for Tyrdal's unofficial challenge in December. So stay alert!

If you don't find enough time to write during Worldember, you feel exhausted or don't reach your planned goal, remember, even the smallest number of words is enough to expand your world.
