Jiwa - Water Spitter Lakes

"Fortunately, here for the first time we were able to do without the fire suits that we had to put on when we entered the continent in order to survive. Although the humidity of around 50% was a problem for us, at least we were mostly able to wear shorter, more comfortable clothing. The flora and fauna that we found here is probably the most diverse in the Fire Continent, which is certainly due to the lower temperatures, the higher humidity and the air enriched with minerals.

We spent over four months here, the longest stay in a Layid region, and were able to describe many of the species found here in more detail. We also discovered three unknown species of lichen that we could only find here before. This region was also a real treasure for our geologist and cartographer, who spent a lot of time getting to know the geysers and partly measuring them."
Syrta Khîm, expedition leader-

In the south of Tangisa there are three shallow lakes of different sizes, which the locals call Jiwa, which means water spout. Numerous geysers emit water and steam from many holes at different distances and heights. The air smells of minerals and slightly sour, like fermented honey. But the nose gets used to the smell quite quickly, so that the scent is no longer noticeable after about a day or two.

Climate

The climate in the region, with an average temperature of 20°C to 30°C, is not quite as hot as in the other areas, so that people from other parts of Elaqitan can also live in the Tangisa cities if they can cope with the increased humidity around them 50% compared to temperate zones.

Due to the high humidity across the entire area, which covers around 1,300 km², the continent's greatest biodiversity thrives here.
The region of the Jiwa water fountaines by Blie Fairy 74 via Inkarnate
There are numerous agricultural areas and settlements between the lakes. The area is therefore considered the granary of the entire continent. Various vegetables such as fire cabbage, lingar turnips and grains such as keana and opaya feed the region's residents. The largest cities are Kirange, Miakiali and Tongin with 50,000 to 200,000 inhabitants.

The origin of the eruptions

Actually, they are not really lakes, as their water level is only around one to two meters. There are small "islands" with channels from which the geysers rise. The minerals ejected as a result settle at the exit holes and form small islands over time.

The entire area is fed by huge underground water systems approximately two kilometers deep, which originate from the Tangi River. Below there are magma chambers at depths of around 25 kilometers. The water circulates and is heated to 150°C by the hot rock.

What's special is that the geysers can exist for hundreds of years before they dry up and new channels form. The oldest water spout was the Moji-Manobana, which was over 480 years old and whose island is said to have had the most colorful coloring due to the wide variety of minerals.

Flora & Fauna

The shallow water makes it easy to see the lake bottoms and the species that live there. All species living on Layida are thermophilic, which is why not only bacteria and algae live in the lakes. There are blubblefish, dwarf beaks and finlizard that cavort among the undersea fire lotus, colorful corals and underwater mosses and lichens. Plants such as roundish cattails, water poppies, rush lilies and water tulips grow on the lakes. Giant ear mice, jiwa belters, capybaras, badger cats and moji birds live in the countryside between extensive grasslands.

The lakes

Nektus Phikaryn, the geologist, and Makan Liuxian, the cartographer of the Khîm research group, were in their element as they explored the geology and location of the three lakes. Syrta had given them permission to leave the camp for a few days at a time in order to be able to go on longer tours. The two researchers were difficult to impress. But here they saw the most beautiful and diverse geysers in all of Elaqitan.

“Nektus, do you think there are even more impressive creations than this one?” Makan pointed to a fountain that was currently hiding in the hole in the ground.

"I read that there is something similar on Idaka, but there it would be more like muddy holes that emit foul smells.", and with a vehemently conclusive: "No!", he finished his sentence.   Silence fell between the two and only the bubbling of gas bubbles preparing for the next emission could be heard. Nectus was dreaming. These lakes were unique and everything had to be done to preserve this vibrant yet peaceful place.

Bubble Whisper

This lake is located in the north of the region and is the smallest of the three water reservoirs at around 363 km². Its name is based on the rather shallow fountains, which are only around two to four meters high, or some geysers that only bubble up flat. The approximately 26 geysers become active approximately every 30 minutes to two hours.   Name: Seresisi - Pearl string geyser
Eruption height 3,7 meters (longest canal)
Interval: every hour and a half
Special feature: Due to the different lengths and thicknesses of the channels, there are different pressure conditions for the emerging water columns. The channels with the shortest sewers erupt first with shorter eruption heights, resembling a water feature.

When the Seresisi erupts in a whisper of bubbles, you see a water feature that is lined up like a fountain like pearls on a string. One after another, fountains of different heights shoot out of the canals, which are more wonderful than those that give the Téshàn gardens their splendor."

Nektus Phikaryn, théshanian geologist-

Cascade Spitter
"Oh, how lucky that the eruptions of the Katakeni Geyser take place at midday. Otherwise we would hardly have been able to admire this magnificent piece with the largest eruption column that I have ever seen. And how long the spectacle lasts! What a Beauty!"

Makan Liuxian, théshanian carthographer-

There are about 57 geysers in this lake, which has an area of approximately 477 km². It is the second largest lake in terms of size. Its name is based on the waterfall-like geysers with the highest fountains of 50 to 80 meters. The cascades arise because the individual channels have formed additional small passages towards the top, from which the water escapes at the same time as the main vein. Here are the longest and thickest channels of all the lakes, which means that the geysers take several days to erupt.   Name: Katakeni-Geysir
Eruption height: about 73 meters
Interval: every 24 hours with a deviation of approximately plus or minus two hours
Special feature: eruption lasts five to ten minutes

Mist Sprayer

The largest lake with an area of 548 km² is home to the geysers with the highest steam production. Long steam phases of over 30 minutes led to the name of the lake. The ejected eruptions are very hot and occur in a jet-like manner. The approximately 91 geysers erupt every eight to 24 Layid hours and can reach ten to 20 meters.   Name: Fiariba-Geysir
Eruption height: 17 meters
Interval: every nine and a half hours
Special feature: water phase of around 20 minutes and steam phase of 45 minutes
"Damn it that we're not Layikani! Then we could show ourselves how Êlgista created us and enjoy the water and the steam much better. One more sip of this fiery fig drink in our hands and it would be a little like being at home!"

Such a beautiful page! I love the sketches so I'd obviously never say no to more - would look forward to an update. I always think little writing bits with the info is the best, too. Adds great flavor to the information.

The Mojibird is so cuuuute. Unfortunately I would never see them. Those fire lands just aren’t for me, not even the lakes. Too much humidity. All that preparation was worth it.

Well, I guess no one would find me there either. I'm a winter child and it would be too humid for me. Thank you for stopping by and leaving your lovely comment. ;)

FIRE CABBAGE.   I love geysers. I really like that you have described a bunch of different ones. I'd love to see the one with the pearl string like fountain.   Great article.
