Black Sails Brethren

The Black Sail Brethren is a collective term for the group of somewhat aligned pirate fleets operating in the Traxan Bay and the great southern sea along the eastern coasts of Erikan Isthmus and Sunotria.

Structure

The Brethren is governed by the most powerful pirate leades, referred to as Pirate Princes, many who command entire fleets of ships. Usually these pirate princes will only meet to end conflicts between members. The Princes are in a constant state of flux, as previous members are assassinated or replaced by new ones, but no one person has been able to unify all of the fleets into a force that could pose a more serious threat to any major country.   Many of the Pirate Princes have moved into palatial estates in captured port towns that fall within in their domain.

Culture

Each of the Pirate Princes enforces their own code of conduct among their crews, but their is a common code that ties the brethren together.

The Code of the Black Sails

  I. The Confederacy of the Southern Seas shall sail under the same Black Sail.
II. All who sail under the Black Sail are brethren and to be treated as such.
III. A prize won must not be stolen out from under a fellow Black Sail.
IV. A meeting of the greatest of the Brethren shall sit together as Princes to preserve the Confederacy.
V. The Princes shall order their ships and crew as they see fit.
VI. The Right of Parley is granted to all who ask of it.
VII. Any conflict between Princes or crews that cannot be resolved is to be settled between the two parties alone, by a duel, at a prearranged location, and witnessed by another of the Brethren.

History

The Brethren began as small pirate operations that took advantage of the weakened Kingdom of Erikadia during The Long Regency. These pirate operations joined up under a common banner to seize some of the islands in the southern Traxan Crescent. As their fleets grew, these early princes were able to control all trade through this part of the world, and engage in their own illicit smuggling operations, most notably in slaves.   As of 578 E3, there are nine Pirate Princes.   Kammbe Sheykaske the Dragon of the Scale Pirates
Reynalt Chust of the Red Hat Pirates
Mally and Fidel Rounbreeze of the Wee Free Pirates
Bentish Tacklebrune of the Silver-Gold Pirates
Kieper Messle of the Southern Swords
Jordan Bremmer of the Blue Petal Pirates
Remy Trident Hand of the Cormorant Legion
Madame Fayng Kuan of the Yellow Banner Fleet

Demography and Population

The population is divided between Pirates and everyone else. Both groups are extremely varied with a mix of all the Cognizana and many of the species considered to be Monstrous such as Goblins as well as many aquatic species as well.   Most pirate crews are mostly one species or another, but more diverse crews are becoming more and more common.

Religion

Many pirates in some way follow one the Pelagic Ways, though some pay homage to darker beings such as Demons and Devils. Rumors of even older more eldritch beings at work among the brethren are heard in hushed tones.

Foreign Relations

The Brethren has no offical recognition from any nation, nor does it currently seek any. Unofficially the Elanvi tolerates the Brethren and sees them as a good buffer to Erikadian expansion.

Agriculture & Industry

While the Pirate class do not produce anything, the lands that they control are rich in natural resources. Many port towns that the Brethren control have large fishing industries, and some are also home to many industries such as metallurgy and carpentry. More luxury items like pearls and tropical fruits are produced here, and heavily taxed by their pirate overlords.
