Salt-Town
Salt-Town is the main port of the Savage Coast and gets its name from the Salty Dunes surrounding the area. It is ruled by the iron fist of Warlord Ankrah who must maintain order if the town is to continue trading and ultimately survive.
Demographics
This city is one the most cosmopolite of the savage coast since it is the main trading hub of the region. In order to keep doing business it must be relatively tolerant and relatively peaceful.
The approximate population distribution is the following:
% | Race | Notes |
---|---|---|
38% | Sand Orks | Main denizens, mostly soldiers. |
15% | Goblins | Originally immigrated in mass as engineers. |
12% | Kobolds | Strangely stable population. They must have a high-rate of mortality to counterweight their reproductive rate. |
10% | Wemics | Mostly workers due to their carrying capacity. |
8% | Humans | About half of them are permanent residents. |
7% | Dwarves | Well adapted to the harsh conditions, more and more become salt miners. |
5% | Elves | Mostly traders |
3% | Savages | These are the other "savage" races such as Bugbears, Lamias, etc... |
2% | Weak | These are the other "weak" (or "civilised") races such as Gnomes, Halflings, etc... |
Infrastructure
Houses and buildings are mainly built from thick sandstone walls to protect the interior from the intense heat of the sun. The city is a realtively safe distance from the Salty Dunes but there is a slight slaty deposit on the exterior of the buildings. Wind and humanoïd activity constantly erodes the deposits so it does not build-up over time.
The city is cahotic in nature there is no urban planning making it generally difficult to navigate. The most structured zone is the floating docks area, where most merchants and shipyards are located.
A prominent feature of the city is the most famous floating docks. Since the city sprout-up almost instantly for trading and never planned for such a quick expansion, there is only a very small area of fixed heavy stone docks. The rest of the docks are floating sections of wood that have been added over time to accomodate the rise in trading ships traffic.
