Whadi's Wheat District

Description

This is the main market of the city adn commonly called "Wheat Square". Almost every commonly available goods can be found in this area. Most merchants erect colorful overhanging linen canopies that allow the wind to blow and cool the stands and also providing enough shade to protect shoppers from the intense heat of the sun. there are a few permanent sandstone shops circumscribing the market. These buldings protect the most sensitive or valuable goods such as art, spices and jewelery.

History

It is called the "Wheat District" since the early days of the settlement, because it is the area historically used by traders to sell produce and cereal. Early settlers were worried keeping the wheat too close to the coast would spoil it because of the humidity from the ocean. Over time merchants congregated to this area and it became the main market of the town.
