Whadi's Final Rest District

Description

This area is only composed of a few buildings but is one of the most revered location of the city. It serves as a mortuary where final rites are performed, a preparation area for the dead before being entoumbed into the Necropolis. Corpses are assigned a location before being transported to their final resting place. Some more fortunate families or groups own crypts, mausolums or other buildings in the Necropolis.

History

The Final Rest appeared almost immediately when the Necropolis was created. When bodies were moved from Whadi's cemetery, they sometimes needed to be housed teporarily before being put to rest at their final location. At the same time, new bodies needed to be tallied and planification for the necropolis assignment and layout had to occur close by in a pragmatic fashion. Wealthier clients demanded areas to perform rites, at it was impractical to perform rites at the Holy Plaza and then move the bodies all the way up to the Necropolis. Less known, the Final Rest also served as a headquarter for architects and builders to construct the city of the dead. It also became a rally point for guards once graverobbing became a more serious problem.

Buildings

  1. Morgue: This building is where the corpses are stored and physically prepared according to the last will or religious rites of the deceased. It is simple in appearance, and seems to be a dull single-story; but has several levels deep into the earth to conserve the bodies at a lower temperature.
  2. Ritual Hall: This is a massive but generic looking building that has pillars extending 40 feet high. It resembles ancient greece palaces and is completely open space except for the sandstone pillars and roof. It can be adapted to perform any rite and is not associated with any diety.
  3. Mortorium: This building is used to keep official records about buildings in the Necropolis as well as the corpses resting there. It is more akin to a library than an administrative building. They keep records of crypts ownership, corpse names, dates of death, rites performed and, faith of the deceased.
  4. Presbitary: These smaller buildings house the workers who need to reside on-site to take care of incoming patrons and deceased alike. These services are offered any day and any time of day or night. Thus, it requires housing for staff on duty.
  5. Barracks: These three distinct buildings house the guards constantly keeping watch around the Necropolis. It has everything military needs: barracks, armory, mess hall, etc...
