Smoking Croc Inn
Description
The Smoking Croc is a famous inn located on one of the main streets of the Old Forgar District nearby the Wheat Square and the Holy Plaza. It is renown to host the most notorious adventurers of the city including "The Grand Soothing" (of the dead) event.
Architecture
This a classic sandstone building like most others in Whadi but it is unusually tall with its "L-shaped" 3 floors high and stands-out from the nearby buildings because of its height but also distinct by the colorful wooden paneling around all doors and windows. The legendary square wooden sign representing a Crocodile smoking the hookah hangs above the front door of the structure. It has the 'inn' title since it has a few rooms to rent on the top floor, but is essentially a spacious tavern. The sitting area spawns across the two first floors, and the kitchen occupies the back of the main floor. All tables and chairs are made of sturdy wood re-used from vessels repair. It gives a darker shine than most wooden furniture, has a faint musky smell but also is easier to maintain due to its impermeability acquired over time.
Services
This fine establishment offers base services but nothing else. So many patrons constantly show-up that it can barely keep-up with its reputation. As soon as a table frees itself the next group sits down all day long from the sunrise to the wee hours of the night. The few rooms available are almost constantly rented and is a first-come first-serve basis.
Meals
Most meals are the "meal of the day" composed of whatever fish was freshly supplied by local fishermen, a somewhat fresh ale from the cellar in a tin cup, whatever produce came from supply ships this week, and maybe cheese if you are a nice patron or pay extra tip to the maid. All the meals are the same except in the early morning (typically before mid-morning aka 9am) where they serve some thick barley and seaweed based gruel instead of fish.
Typically, a meal cost 1sp and an extra ale costs 5cp a glass. Adventurers often ask to substitute the fish by salted fish for the same price, so they can quickly guzzle from the tin cup and chew on a salty-fish-stick on the road when they have to leave in a hurry. On each table there is a complementary bowl of spicy ground pepper to spice-up meals and a hookah and tobacco for patrons to smoke. More refined tobacco is available for 1sp per portion.
On special events, for nobility, and noteworthy adventurers, the house can serve "The Rolling Croc" special meal for 1gp. This refers to crocodiles rolling on their backs when they caught a prey and their belly is full. That meal is composed from the freshest meat available from the Great Steppe such as Zebra, Antelopes and other typical game. It is accompanied by cheese, bread and a bottle of wine for every pair of patrons ordering this meal. An extra glass of wine is available for 1sp. On very rare occasions, other meat such as Beef and Wild Boar is served. Chicken, Goat and other animals that is used for eggs and milk is almost never served but can be part of an extra-special meal on extra-special occasions.Accomodations
On the last floor, there are four 'buddy rooms' with two single-beds, a nightstand and a large chest to store adventuring gear that can be rented for 1gp a night each small room. Slightly larger 'lover's rooms' have one large bed where two can sleep comfortably, two nightstands and two large chests for equipment. Only two such rooms are available for rent at a price of 5gp per night for a large room. All rooms have one small window for air and to dispose of the chamber pots contents for patrons that have unfortunately abused the wine and spicy food...
This is a charming place where I would enjoy fish and chips with mushy English peas and a Hobgoblin ale.
