Salty Dunes

The Salty Dunes are bright white sand dunes in a specific area south of Savage Coast . They have had several names over the years such as "The Great Mirrage" and "Diamond Hills". It got its name from the salty deposit formed over the sand by a unique weather system brigning and evaporating massive quantities of sea water.

Localized Phenomena

Due to the area's unique geography, strong winds constantly blow massive quantities of sea-water over the desert. Combined with swift evaporation of the intense heat of the sun; this particular weather system causes a thick wet 'salty snowfall' that instantly crystalizes upon touching the ground. Over time it forms a thick crust that can support the weight of most humanoids.

The precepitations vary from a range of salty misty to heavy sleet. The air itself seems to sweat salt and causes a slightly noxious ambiance. Salt saturation is known to cause health issues in general but moreso with the salt miners who are overly exposed. Constant exposure to salt is known to corrode ferrous metals and affect composite organic materials such as rope. Workers and guards are constantly seen repairing their equipment and some ditches those material for pure stone weapons and tools.

History

Salty Dunes have been exploited in a specific spot due to Salt abundance often reaching several feet deep. It was then exported in other regions of the Savage Coast and surrounding kingdoms. Over time, settlers created the portuary settlement of Salt-Town since exportation was much easier by boats.

The area is claimed by Salt-Town and constantly patrolled by Salty Warlord's troops. Since salt is a values ressource there are constant conflicts with neighboring Warlords and looters. It is so valuable that a standard pound of salt is implicitly valued as one silver and often traded at face value.
