Golgatha

The purpose of this section is to present and familiarize you with one of the main locations of the campaign: the great city of Golgatha. This section is lengthy, as the city is comparatively huge and each of its districts are full of lore.

On the western shores of Carandor lies the city of Golgatha. It’s a mixture of northern and southern influences, set in a time reminiscent of the Renaissance. A vast metropolis for its era, over 30 000 people call Golgatha their home. Its strength kies in the fact that it’s both a port city, and built on defensible mountainous terrain. It’s surrounded by farms which supply it with food, and dwarven-held mountains to the North.

Golgatha is widely known for its lavish Noble District, its street lamps which operate with permanent Continual Flame spells cast by the clerics of the Pantheon, and for its public Crystal Ball Displays at renowned taverns and other establishments, city squares, and street corners. These arcane-manufactured crystal balls show streams of the viewer’s choice. The availability of public Chainers, housed on every street corner and tavern, means that even if you are poor in Golgatha you will never get bored. Many people in the city grow up watching the adventures of renowned figures, dreaming of one day becoming such themselves.

Perhaps because of the widespread culture of watching streams, Golgathans are troublesomely curious to peek into other people’s lives and private affairs. Golgathan architects love walls, which seems to be the only way to keep curious passers-by from peeking in. As such the city is full of them. But where there is a wall there’s always someone convinced that its existence is a great reason to climb it.

History of Conflict

Golgatha has been through many eras, each of which have left their mark on the city. Some places look distinctly arcane, relics of the Pax Magica period of the Nine Mages centuries ago. Others however look to be more aligned with the divine. The Church of the Pantheon has its own district. After the Magewar, the Dwarves and Elves were also granted districts which are their own areas of economic activity, holding their own licenses from the Doge.
