Legendary Parties Cup

The most popular sport in Carandor is live-adventuring. In it, crowds of people watch adventurers through special public scryings called Channelings which magically tune into specific, active Streaming Orbs currently transmitting audio and/or video. You can also tune into the streams from any distance using a Chainer, if you have one. Few things compare to the level of excitement in an adventurer’s life, and consequently live- adventuring dominates all other sports in Carandor’s culture.

Blood and Gold

Live-adventuring is a blood sport: The crowd relishes conflict and stylish kills earn fame. Fortunes are made and lives lost in equal amounts in the pursuit of this sport, but it’s all done for the greater cause of securing Carandor from the dangerous Halls of Alabaster lying just beneath the capital of Golgatha. If there was no adventuring, monsters would make their way to the surface and harm the people. Live-adventurers are therefore seen as something of a mix of a celebrity and soldier, a hero. Though live-adventuring can be done anywhere, the Halls are by far the most popular spot for it. Carandorian authorities never enter the mega dungeon; it’s a dangerous, lawless locale for most of the year, and it’s right on the very doorstep of the capital.

Hunters and the Hunted

The Halls of Alabaster are an enigmatic place whose mysteries remain unsolved to this day. Normally, it’s considered incredibly dangerous to venture within the halls,as the monsters there greatly outnumber adventurers. Once a year, however, that situation is turned on its head when the Legendary Parties Cup is held. During it, hundreds of adventurers will head into the Halls, turning the hunters in to the hunted, as hordes of adventurers step into the massive dungeon.

Style, and Those Who Have It

Character, bravado, and dispatching enemies in an entertaining way can earn the streamer fame which directly translates to income. Fans may support their favorite live- adventuring celebrities with donations that produce a stable income for popular figures. They can also donate in response to particular moments in combat, leaving a message along with their coin that the streamers eventually receive. When you’re streaming, the most valuable play could be the one with which you make the greatest impression on the crowd, not the one which does the greatest harm to the enemy During the Cup, donations are also worth points which determine the winner of the Cup, making them doubly worth it. Some people make fortunes with their fame, while others are lain destitute through their failure.

Though they originally shunned live-adventuring, nobles have recently been partaking and are bringing their massive resources with them. Some streamers see this as unfair and are fighting back however they can, but rich, pretty-boy parties are becoming ever more common.

Betrayal

During the cup, in some ways the Halls of Alabaster can be even more dangerous than normal. Adventuring is a bloodsport, and the Halls are a wild zone with no law- enforcement. Thus, your fellow man could turn on you at any given moment. Though parties are not supposed to fight each other during the Cup, self-defense is allowed because sometimes the lure of treasure is too great for some to ignore. You must watch competitors and natural denizens of the Halls alike with equal wariness. Streaming offers a minor form of protection, and often the only thing discouraging predatory behavior is the fact that cameras are rolling and violators know that vast amounts of people would see their wrongdoing, but sometimes even that is not enough.
