Elven District

The beautiful, posh, and decidedly upper-class neighborhood of the Elven district rivals the Noble and Doge districts in splendor. The elves of Golgatha are urban rather than wild and display it through artistic additions to their district. Even the railings are polished here. It’s not all stiff-necked elves with haughty looks. Many small cafés can be found here, and the elves are fond of spending time in them.

Rough Neighbors

The Elven district is situated right next to the worst one in Golgatha, the Olfactory district, something the elves regularly complain about. To ward off the smell, censers full of perfume are burned at all hours by the Naucern Wall separating the two districts. The elves keep the gates between their and the Olfactory district locked at all times. Passage through the gates is only granted by appointment, to nobles, and the Doge. Otherwise, you will have to go around.

Glorified Clerks

The Elven district is home to its long-lived people who like to advertise the fact that they act as the administrators and officials of Carandor. Their famous elven patience has been adapted to many boring, secretarial desk-jobs where paperwork is prevalent. These positions are increasingly necessary in Carandor’s advancing economy. Most clerk jobs can be found here, and most of the ones working them are elves. Onlyelves are considered to be suitable for deskwork, as shorter lived races findthe monotony unbearable.

Lethal Elegance

Those who see the elegant surroundings of the Elven district as a sign of effete inhabitants who would be unable to defend themselves, would be sorely mistaken. The Elven district is home to the notorious Censorate, a dangerous organization whose Censors can be recognized by their blue-striped cloaks. This quasi-secret police organization enforces the Mercantilist system and hunts for those breaking Carandorian crafting law. First offenders get fines. Repeat offenders simply disappear, and the elves always keep are cord of your previous infractions. The Golgathan Archives are also located in the Elven district, where the long lives of its elven librarians make for consistent classification practices across the centuries, making decades old documents easy to find. Records of all noble genealogies are kept here, to safeguard against forgeries and con men.
