Trust One.

by August

Xerrakir.

A thankful beacon of trustworthiness in this group, which is surprising considering he hails from a place of pure chaos by his own admission. Beneath the surface of it all, his motives do seem genuine, even if some of his opinions are misguided by lavish circumstance. For example, to tell someone whose glum, self-induced street life that they are not irredeemable, in the very same conversation as to profess that his own redemption came at the hands of some dragon-deity he now calls Mother going out of her way to save him? That seems a rather pious view on the world, in a way, though I supposed it’s not unlike much of other goodfolk I’ve met so perhaps it’s my view that’s jaded.

Probably.

At the end of it all, I cannot fault him for having these thoughts, I suppose. And, well, he performs his roles in the world quite effectively - he’s strong, appears useful in combat, and he’s skilled with his hands, so he’s definitely a useful person to have around. Perhaps a bit too trusting that the ones around him are not out to get him, but, again, mayhaps that judgement of mine onto him comes from a lifetime of mistrust; who can say for certain. What is certain is that he stands out as one that is actually trustworthy, in that he stays level-headed when the situation demands it and remains focused on the tasks at hand.

I do wonder if any of his early years lie dormant beneath that calm demeanour of his; I would absolutely not want to be on the receiving end of his axe if that were the case. Even though he is pushing 5 decades with much of that time away from his tribe now, I cannot help but wonder if something else is buried there; if something from his past would bring it out, and what that would mean for the rest of us if that were the case. Or perhaps he is simply what he appears to be.

I don’t know. Simplicity is complicated.
