Pondering Moment.

by August

Finally a moment’s rest after a crazy couple... Hours?

Days?

Weeks?

I suppose it doesn’t really matter - a moment’s rest is none-the-less a time to quiet the thoughts, and this run of events definitely has given me much to ponder.

Finding that people were being hunted for sport was one thing; part of me wonders if we could have walked away from that and merely continued towards Port Arstone with little more than regret in our wake. Finding that Adria’s brother was involved changed the game, and I knew that most of the group would likely want to help in the search for him, which is encouraging. At least they mostly have kind heads on their shoulders, even if sometimes they get caught up in the flaws of plans without providing alternative ideas. One thing they all have, to no surprise, is many tricks up their sleeves; the summoning of a drake through a portal is certainly a new one, and not what I expected from any of them.

The only snag to all this is the question I had for myself when we left Quickwater got another answer: there is yet one more ally I do not think I can count on in true times of conflict. I do understand why it happened, as it reminds me much of the Sarah situation, but unfortunately that means that of the 6 that I travel with, nearly a half of them have put us all at great risk in a time most unfortunate. I... Am unsure of what this means for the rest, but I am willing to continue to try this. Whatever it is. Some of them have at least shown that preservation does not always mean we must come to blows with our foe.

One thing for certain is that our next time in a large city, one such as Port Arstone, shall have to either be much quieter than we thought, or one of those without distractions shall have to keep their head on swivel. I am learning more tricks every day, for certain, but my illusions may not be enough to hide us from whoever might spy us, and I have half a mind that the one we let away in the forest now has more of an urban hunt in mind. Either that or the money to throw at hired hands who will take care of it for him regardless.

All that being said, I remain... Well, optimistic, I suppose? Perhaps there will be some growth along the way, who knows. Wherever this next chapter takes the group I’m sure it will test us in new and unusual ways, and I’m curious to see how they will cope, this troupe.
