Necros is the only country in Wennovi where necromancy is legal.  It is not only legal, but celebrated and deemed the preferred magic study.  Communication with spirits is revered, and the energy released upon death is a valued resource.   As such, tensions between Necros and the other countries of Imbria are high.  Necros is often viewed as a country of lawless, soulless murderers.

A country of necromancers

A society wherein innocents are routinely sacrificed for the sake of power by necromancers constantly tying to outdo each other is simply unsustainable.  While this may be what the rest of Imbria believes of Necros, it could not be further from the truth.   Laws surrounding the appropriate use of necromancy are strictly enforced.   Major Crimes

Punishable by death:

  • Murder
  • Human sacrifice (special exception for the Lifestone Ritual, performed only by priests of Na'arin as execution or assisted suicide)

Other serious infractions (punishment typically severe):

  • Vandalism of the Underground Necropolis of Necros
  • Vandalism of the Temple of Na'arin and other religious sites
  • Assault
  • Kidnapping
  • Desecrating remains - includes attempts to reanimate human life

Official Religion: Worship of Na'arin, Necromancer God of the Underworld
Na'arin is considered to be the founder of necromancy, the preferred form of magic in Necros.  As such, worship of Na'arin is important to the citizens and the religion is vital to setting rules of morality by which the citizens are expected to live and the law is expected to uphold.   Forbidden:  Worship of the goddess Torva is strictly forbidden.

Foreign Relations

Brink of war

What has always been a strenuous relationship between Salaris and Necros has in recent years grown even more fraught. The two countries stand on the verge of war over ideological differences and trade blockades.   In a show of solidarity with Torverath, Salaris has denounced necromancy, Recently, they have also ceased most trade with Necros and begun blocking trade routes and actively disuading other nations from trading with Necros. In response, Necros has made moves to strengthen its military and its borders, and has formed an alliance with its northern neighbor Rhovan.

Agriculture & Industry

Necros's economy relies heavily on their mining operations, producing gems and metals.   Traditionally, the most highly coveted Necrosi product has been Lifestones.  The Furhán Mountains in Necros are the only known deposit in Wennovi of these stones, and the necromancy required to fill the stones with magical energy is only taught in Necros.

Trade & Transport

Necros's economy relies heavily on their mining operations and trade with other nations.
