Talonto

Talonto is located at the westernmost end of the Naghronian peninsula, in the southern part of the Sunset Sea, off the coast of Naghron. As a result of some ancient disaster, Talonto was cut off from the mainland, becoming an island. Regardless of geographical status, Talonto has always been remote and isolated, forming a mountainous temperate forest of savage beasts, hulking dinosaurs, and disease-ridden swamps. Taloni tribes haunted the thick forest. Nevertheless, Talonto drew adventurers who sought its legendary riches.   Most sailors avoid it, believing it to be dangerous or cursed.

Geography

Mt. Rethelek was the abode of salamanders and other creatures of fire. The volcano was also rumoured to incorporate a pair of gargantuan brass doors that led to the Plane of fire. Other legends tells of a ancient god trapped in the volcano.   The jagged and treacherous coasts of Talonto created a hazard for ships, and merchants from Maghron, Tymeria and Mekrad have learned to give it wide berth. Fearing not only the cliffs, sailors spoke of whirlpools, freak storms, aquatic monsters, flying dinosaurs and giant eagles. A few brave (or foolish) fortune sought to explore the caves along the coast, hoping they would lead into rich mines under the forest.   The island consists mostly out of jungle and beaches. The beaches are beautiful and white. There is the occasional shard of driftwood or a glimmer of a smooth abalone shell scattered amongst the sandy beaches. There are a few animals up in the top of the trees. Some monkey-type creature, small, leaping from branch to branch. There is an abundance of colorful jungle birds that are up in the higher elements of the tree tops and there are leopard-like creatures with a mane of snakes called Kamadan.   There are a number of jungle flowers. Most of them are a dull pink in color that fade to a green at the base. A lot of them grow along the base of the roots of some of the jungle trees.

Jungle

The jungle line begins about 40 feet onto the island and immediately grows dense and tangled with vines, root and various jungle, heavy palm tree, and tropical trees that choke the sky above. The jungle looks endless, filled with trees, hanging vines and heavy roots in the ground. It is warm, humid, and within ten minutes of walking into the jungle, sweat beginnings to gather at the edges of your hair and the back of your coat. The floor is soft each with a spongy pressure before it hits hard earth, rock, or compressed compost and soft vegetation.

Fauna & Flora

This is the last known territory of the Taloni   It was said by many that the forests of Talonto were the most dangerous places in Maghron. The plants were intelligent predators while the predators themselves were massive and armed with huge teeth and claws. Insects bit and stung travelers almost constantly, the heat and humidity were almost unbearable and the undergrowth contained a multitude of poisonous snakes. Worst, however, was the disease that ran rampant in the area. Most things in the jungle had some sort of illness or parasite and it was very easy to catch such illnesses off them. Even the water was tainted and had to be boiled if it was to be drunk. On top of all this, the intelligent creatures that eked out an existence in the dense foliage were perfectly happy and sometimes went out of their way, to track travelers in order to hunt them down and kill them. ankhegs, trolls, and other species that have learned to survive in this place needed food; any explorer, sailor or slaver would tend to suit that need nicely.   Yet those adventurous souls kept on coming in their droves to the Talontan Forests as rumors of endless veins of gold, huge gems and ruined empires stuffed to the brim with magic and riches kept surfacing in taverns across Aestria and many were willing to brave the dangers of the forest for a slice of that fabled wealth.
