Season 1, Episode 8: "Ready for Takeoff" Report
General Summary
Mining Team 6 escaped the Sauna, leaving a nuclear warhead and a dead Warden behind them. They got a quarter of the way around Bretheda before being intercepted by a Barathu patrol, which was quickly silenced due to the difference in numbers. Of note, Balio seemed besieged by a powerful vision related to his Blessing from the Dreamer, which Ferro believed was somehow related to the "Jester". The Ysoki seemed eager to leave the event behind him, and thus the party focused on landing on the Jasper, entering the carrier through the employee docks.
The didn't get far before encountering Mining Team 3, who seemed to have escaped their prison before being taken over by some kind of spell, becoming hell-bent on stopping the party's advance. However, their early wounds ended up being too great to bear, and Mining Team 6 made quick work of the strange creatures, gaining some easy upgrades to their weapons and armor.
The merriment ended when Caesura arrived, attacking Ferro and forcing the party to separate. At the Chompian's behest the group decided to keep moving forward, although Ragarot split off shortly after, sensing something of interest in the main docks.
The party broke into Holding, retrieving all of their old gear and credsticks (including a present from Pin to Chad), and then began a chaotic dash through the service halls of the Jasper, avoiding the security forces and picking up some gear as they went along. At the end they found the office of Captain Ohm, with Alexander Marcus overseeing the ship via a wall of screens. The Prime Executive seemed pleased to see them, and claimed he wanted to settle matters once and for all - summoning Mining Team 5 from behind an access panel, and beginning an unbalanced free-for-all.
While Marcus intervened in the spirit of "keeping things fair", bad luck seemed to hang around Mining Team 6, and fortune favored their enemies. While they put on a strong front, beginning with a quick kill of Dirty Ace, the law of diminishing returns reared its ugly head, and soon the party found themselves on the ground, ears ringing and a few hits from death. Satisfied with the outcome, Lord Marcus claimed Mining Team 5 as his new team, and left the Captain to handle the leftovers.
Whatever the Barathu had planned, he was interrupted when Chompsky and Caesura came bursting out of a nearby wall, and upon spotting Lord Marcus, agreeing to a temporary truce. With an uproar of light, shadow, and fire, Mining Team 6 found themselves alone in the Captain's office, and security forces scrambling to recover their senior officer. They had just enough time to recover Tesin's Data Disk, Balio's Credstick, and Lockette's Tablet before being overwhelmed, and fled into the ruined inner hull of the Jasper.
After another two-mile dash down the length of the Jasper - picking up a few more items along the way - the party found themselves in the main docks. Skiv sealed the door behind them with some Sovereign Glue, buying the party time to deal with a mysteriously smooth cold iron crate sitting in the hangar. Lockette seemed drawn to the thing, and the party shared a Haze of the Clock, which gave the Android the power to dismantle the crate, revealing to Isra the portal inside. It was the same that connected the Gorgon's Cell, although it had been severely damaged by the warhead on the Sauna. Lockette and Tesin went in to retrieve Tera, while Chad and Balio burgled some storage crates, receiving some extra munitions for their trouble.
By the time all was said and done, the fight with Alexander Marcus had chewed through the Jasper, and the Guardians were reunited at last. They thanked the party for the help (quest complete!), but warned that they may not be friends the next time they met, and wished them all the best of luck. Together once more, they seemed capable of accessing the halls of Valhalla, and became heroes capable of destroying half the docks in a storm of hellfire. From there, the party recovered Ragarot from the tail-end of a battle with an unseen beast, and rushed to their new ship - the Aga Jain.
Before being allowed on board, the party witness an exchange with Vaughn Blackblood and Skiv, who seemed to have completed his task. The oni granted Skiv a small ship with his two prizes on board - the silvery egg from the party's dream, and an egg as black as pitch. He wished them farewell, leaving them his fake eye, which contained footage of their exploits on Varos, which had recently been broadcast to the media via Sauna Station. Vaughan claimed the Centurion had asked him to deliver credentials to Chad, as part of a quest completed, and then vanished into the shadows.
Once on the ship, the party met T.R.A.V.I.S., the onboard AI. He seemed hesitant to allow his new owners - recognized criminals - to board him, but with a little convincing from Chad, the party selected their roles. But as Balio was selected to become Pilot, the Ysoki became incredibly nervous, and quickly explained that he wasn't Balio at all! In fact, he was Mist, Balio's younger brother, who had taken his brother's persona after his death. Unfortunately, the confession was cut short by the destruction of the Jasper, but the party demanded an explanation later, and then were ejected out of the ship and directly into the Byssine Run.
Although they were pursued by agents of Confluence, Mining Team 6's momentum had built to enormous heights. They dashed through the infamous race track of storms, and erupted out the other end smiling from ear to ear.
At last, freedom, and the whole of the Pact Worlds ahead of them.
