Chessboard Intel Report: The Culinarium

This document was given to the Dream Team by Commander Alexis Night of the Chessboard Conclave. It is contained on a specialized datapad, which requires several forms of authentication to view the data, and wipes the data completely on the first failed auth, or any sign of hacking.

The Team

Half of the Dream Team and their dates (Alpha Squad) will be responsible for the actual mission, using the other half of their team as decoys (Beta Squad). As the Conclave (Gamma Squad) will be under the usual scrutiny, we will not be able to aid in the mission, and will deny all involvement if Alpha Squad is discovered. Additional Conclave and Dream Team allies may be placed around the facility and able to help in certain situations (Delta Squad). During the mission, any communications should use the designations given in this report.

Alpha Squad

Beta Squad

Gamma Squad

  • Chess -- "King"
  • Alexis Night -- "Queen"
  • Caesura -- "Left Bishop"
  • Meryl Darling -- "Right Rook"

Delta Squad

The Score

We are stealing an item of interest from Alexander Marcus -- a 13-inch shard of ice shaped like a feather, meant to be traded at approximately 6:30pm between Altraeza's Riders and an unknown seller. Intelligence suggests that touching the ice shard without protection is unwise. Once obtained, the feather should be removed from the premises as soon as possible, and then turned over to Gamma Squad immediately after the event ends. Failure to return the score will result in hostilities.

The Targets

There are a number of rogue operatives expected to be at the gala, mostly comprised of Altraeza's Riders and Stewards loyal to House Marcus. We have confirmed the presence of the following notable persons on the Idari as of today.

Hostiles

Possible Interference

The Joint

As we do not know the location of the trade, both Alpha and Beta Squads will have to search the premises in the morning before the gala. The Culinarium made available to guests during the event can be split into four major compounds -- the Institute, the Hotel, the Dining Hall, and the Conference Center.

The Institute

Of the four locations, the Institute will be the most-heavily guarded, as only dedicated Culinarium staff are allowed within. Getting inside will likely require the aid of such an individual -- whether coerced or silently forced. If Alpha Squad intends to infiltrate the Institute, we recommend doing so as a last resort -- i.e. only if the trade was not found to be ocurring elsewhere.

The Hotel

The Hotel is the least-guarded location, open to all guests at all times, protected only by light security during the actual event. As an insurance measure, we have purchased Room 812 for mission use, registered through one of the Conclave's shell corporations. The room is on the top floor (the 8th floor) giving a good view of the rest of the campus. We recommend visiting the hotel lobby the day of the Pact Summit -- particularly in the morning -- and staying alert for any changes to the proceedings. Breakfast is provided with the purchase of Room 812.

The Dining Hall

The Dining Hall will be the main focus of security during the gala, but all members of Alpha and Beta Squads are allowed at the event. To create a semblance of normalcy, both Squads should arrive at the event together, promptly at 6pm, and then Alpha Squad should sneak away whenever possible -- ideally well before Alexander Marcus' speech. Given the number of eyes at the event, we consider it wholly unlikely that the deal will take place in the Dining Hall. However, it will be up to Beta Squad to ensure that other operatives are unable to leave the gala, and to hide the fact that Alpha Squad has suspiciously retired from the event.

The Conference Center

The Conference Center will be open to all Squads between the hours of 8am and 3pm Pact Standard Time, and then closed off by security. If the trade takes place in the Conference Center after hours, Alpha Squad will need to sneak in to avoid detection. Note that while the exterior of the facility has dozens of cameras, the interior is largely void of surveillance devices, to ensure the privacy of mediations. While Alpha and Beta Squads are not invited to the actual Summit, it is recommended that all mission personnel stay around the facility, as many interesting conversations can be overhead... I have included notable events in the Conference schedule below. While the Conference Center has four floors, these major events will all take place on the ground floor.
  • 08:00-09:00: Pact Summit Opening Statements
  • 09:00-10:00: Azlanti Star Empire & Shadari Confederacy Mediation
  • 09:00-10:00: Pact Council Membership Voting
  • 10:00-10:30: "Mataras Conflict" Peace Treaty Announcement
  • 10:30-11:00: Public "Threefold Conspiracy" Debriefing
  • 10:30-11:00: Azlanti Star Empire & Shadari Confederacy Reconvene
  • 11:00-12:00: Refreshments in the Courtyard
  • 12:00-13:00: Near Space Consortium on the Swarm
  • 13:00-14:00: Near Space Consortium on Planar Diplomacy
  • 14:00-15:00: Near Space Consortium on Vast Relations
  • 15:00-16:00: Refreshments in the Courtyard
  • 16:00-17:00: State of the Pact Address (Alexander Marcus)

The Reward

Upon successful return of the artifact, the Dream Team will be rewarded 50,000 credits, and a single favor of equal value to their performance during the mission -- scope ultimately determined by Chess. Once the deal is complete, the Dream Team and the Chessboard Conclave will not communicate for 7 days, to ensure an image of neutrality. If the Conclave's involvement is ever brought to light before, during, or after the proceedings, the Conclave will seek the full breadth of both legal and illegal reactions of which it is capable.

FAQ

What are we allowed to bring inside?
You will be picked up at 6:30am, where you will be searched and scanned. Each guest is allowed to bring two sets of clothes (one for during the day, and one for the gala), any necessary medical equipment (e.g. Mist's prothestics), and one personal communication unit. All other items must be left behind, and any uneccesary technical augmentations (e.g. Tesin's heel thrusters) will be deactivated until the end of the event, and any magical augmentations (e.g. Chamas' tattoo) will be similarly surpressed. Your personnel comms will be digitally scanned for any dangerous code before being accepted, and all gear will be subject to technological and magical scans. You will be dropped off at the hotel promptly at 6:45am.   How is magic treated at the Culinarium?
The entire campus has been enchanted over many years of hosting the Pact Summit, making most magics difficult to cast for those without the right counter-runes (which will not be shared with your party). When casting a spell or using a spell-like ability, you must overcome an SR 22 magic dampening field, or the spell fizzles out of existence. If using a supernatural ability, you must pass a DC 25 Mysticism check, or suffer a similar detriment. Note that avoiding detection when using magic is incredibly difficult -- requiring a separate DC 25 Mysticism check any time magic is utilized, to avoid immediately attracting the interest of security.   What about Carrot, Unari, and Skiv?
Chess has made special arrangements for Carrot and Unari to arrive on the Idari just before the gala event. Skiv will be out and about during the day, but has agreed to meet up with the group just before the party.   Are we allowed to leave the Culinarium?
If you leave the Culinarium at any point during the event, you will not be permitted re-entry.   What happens if we're caught breaking the rules or trespassing?
Out of an abundance of caution, your entire party will be removed from the event, as you are deemed non-essential personnel.
