Federal Province of Mediolama

Mediolama is a Federal Province located in Central Tersten, stretching from the White Ocean to the Sahamptha Desert.

Regions

Northern Mediolama (Golichistan and Arimidas)

Uludere
The Uludere Plateau is a small geographic region on the south side of the Pinascimate Mountains. Formerly a part of the Federal Province of Tersten, the region recently achieved autonomy after establishing the Republic of Golichistan, which controls the region. Uludere is bordered by the Marshlands to the south, and by the Federal Province of Saralost to the west. Uludere is an elevated plateau region with tableland formations. The city of Mehmet's Cove is settled just south of the plateau, where the land rolls smoothly into the coasts of the White Ocean. Mehmet's Cove is settled on the banks of the Golich River, which flows across the entire plateau and provides vital freshwater. It is from this river that the nation of Golichistan is named.
Marshlands
The Marshlands are a region of central Tersten south of the eastern Pinascimate Mountains. The largest city in the region, Marshfield, is built out on a peninsula in the southern coast of the Marshlands, and is elevated high above the sea and the swamp below.
Vashan
The Vashan Heights are a region of the Pinascimate Mountains. It is a region full of valleys and rivers, with the city of Adala being a significant settlement in the area. The Adala River flows down from the mountains and flows into the Takiwerk River.
Voolani
The Voolani Wetlands are a land of rivers and swamps, south of the Pinascimate Mountains. The Takiwerk River flows out of the Priceless Dam, making its way down towards the White Ocean. The Takiwerk defines the border between Golichistan and Arimidas. Here, the river and the land merge to become nearly impassable bogs, deltas, and marshes. The largest city in the region, Taqir is situated on the Takiwerk, and has an expansive shipping industry.
Bay of Sparta
The Bay of Sparta is a region of Mediolama located south-east of Golichistan and north-west of Central Mediolama. The lands north-western edge is bound entirely by the Pinascimate Mountains, and its southern shores by the White Ocean. It is home to the Arimidas Republic and the Arimidan People. The land has been inhabited for generations, settled during the era of the Penal Authority. The city of Stillwater was used by the People's Republic as a major armoury and military capital, until it was largely destroyed during the Great Revolution.

Southern Mediolama (Italian Tersten)

Monti Vabacci
Monti Vabbaci is a region in Southern Mediolama dominated by its central feature, the mighty Monti Vabacci. Mt Vabacci is an ancient volcano on the south coast of the White Ocean, and densely populated by Tersese peoples. The largest city in the region is Vabacci City, situated on the Fiumi Cicarado, or Cicarado River, on its way into the Hild River. It is part of the Republic of Casano.
Hild River Valley
The Hild River Valley is a fertile region located on the northern side of the Hild River, which flows from the Federal Province of Nevada and marks the official border between Mediolama and Onooga. The city of Boyes is the dominant power in the region, with the nation of Big Boyes governing from here. Lake Rasoma is home to most of the regions industrial capability, and the town of Sati, situated on the Cicarado River, is a prominent trading town with the lands of Vabacci that lay upstream.
Maletto Plains
The Maletto Plains are an expansive and largely flat region of Southern Mediolama. It lies south of Zayantia and is the heartland of the Tersese, largely dominated by farmlands and industrial sites. The Republic of Casano is in control of the majority of the region, including the city of Casano itself. They have recently been in conflict with Big Boyes over land south of Impagin River, which has typically served as a border between the two powers.
White Ocean Islands
The White Ocean Islands are collection of volcanic islands stretching from King Island to Tupac Island. The islands are mostly inhabited by tourists and farmers, with King Island being a popular cruise port. Tupac Island is volcanically active and of some scientific interest. It lies near enough in the centre of White Ocean, and prior to the Tersten State launching the first mapping satelites, its existence was only rumoured to exist by sailors who passed it on the way from White Ocean City to Harmony.

Central Mediolama (White Ocean County)

Lesser Mediolama
Lesser Mediolama lies south of the Wells River, and is largely rural farmland. This quiet patch of land has seen little in terms of development over the past twenty years, as most attention is focused on Greater Mediolama to the north. The most notable settement here is the city of Carparnia, which is situated in the Mistrajo Mountains. Large volumes of water flow down from the mountains, where they collect in several manmade lakes, held back by the great Carparnia Wall, a collection of nine dams, which allows for the channelling of water into three separate rivers, allowing them to control the water level downstream in the low-lying Zayantia.
Mistrajo Jama
The Mistrajo Jama is a valley deep inside the Mistrajo Mountains. It is surrounded on all sides by impassable cliffs, but thanks to time and the persistence of flowing water, vast channels have been carved through the rocks, creating extensive cave systems that allow access in and out of the isolated valleys within. The land takes its name from the largest settlement in the region, Mistrajo, a city that takes full advantage of the sloping terrain along the banks of the Acanto River, which flows through Mistrajo Jama, out its many caves, and into the Wells River. Mistrajo Jama is controlled by both the Mediolama Regional Government, and the Tornado Republic, who claim to govern in the name of the native Kanvče People.
Zayantia
Zayantia is a land of swamps and bogs, as warm winds from the White Ocean are funnelled through the Zayantia Valley, where it meets the cold air flowing down from the Mistrajo Mountains and the Goldbutte. Water flowing down from the mountains passes the great dams of Carparnia, which hold back a tremendous volume of water, allowing lands around the city of Zayante to be drained and farmed. The lands nearer to White Ocean are far harder to distinguish from water, where mangroves thrive all along the coasts of Phil's Swamp, a series of lowlying mangroves and mudflats home to most of Mediolama's biodiversity. Zayantia is a part of the Mediolama Regional Government, and marks the borders between Central Mediolama, Southern Mediolama, and Western Mediolama.
Tornado Bowl
The Tornado Bowl is a region nestled between the Pinascimate and the Mistrajo Mountains. Its geography, with the Wells River flowing through from west to east, makes it incredibly susceptible to high winds and tornado events, giving it the name Tornado Bowl. Its largest city, Soringo, lies in the north, near where the flat steppes give way to mountains, eventually forming the Limes Pass. To the east, the land becomes increasingly wet and temperate, leading to Greater Mediolama and its Mediterranean climate. Its north, south, and west borders are all mountainous. In the south, the Acanto River flows from the Mistrajo Jama and joins the Wells River here. The Tornado Bowl is home to a vast collection of largely agricultural- based settlements, such as Bonomia, Fiela, and Vidiacj.
Greater Mediolama
Greater Mediolama is one of the smallest regions of Mediolama, and also its most developed. It is home to the largest city in the province, White Ocean City, which lies on a peninsula near the mouth of the Wells River and its estuary. All along the coast from White Ocean City to Hypatia, the land is full of coastal towns, villages, and industrial sites. White Ocean City is a major transport hub for most of Tersten, connected via land, sea, air, and space, thanks to its recent investment in the White Ocean Spaceport, located in the town of Plishov. Greater Mediolama is the heart of the Mediolama Regional Government. Despite this, White Ocean City is considered its own largely independent city state, with significant influence over the rest of the province.
Western White Ocean Islands
The Western White Ocean Gas Field is an underground deposit of natural gas that lies off the east coast of the White Ocean. The Gas Field lies under the Darsod Archipelago, a series of eight islands divided between the Mediolama Regional Government, the Arimidas Republic, and Golichistan. All three nations have invested into harvesting operations, with many oil platforms lying around the islands, which serve as ports, processing, and habitation for the workers. During the initial underwater surveys that led to the discovery of the gas field, numerous underwater ruins were discovered, all part of one seemingly connected facility, one of the Sar'ket Ruins. Occasional archaeological expeditions are launched, but these are few and far between, largely funded by the Arimidas Republic.

Western Mediolama (The Wildlands)

Western Mediolama, known by its eastern neighbors as The Wildlands, is a warm and dry environment dominated by prairie, rivers, mountains, and grasslands. Its two largest features are the Glass Prairie and the Huángjīn Floodplain, two distinctly different regions. Historically, this region was dominated by the Eden Republic, which struggled in many conflicts against the Pinascimate Penal Authority, and came out of the Penal Era a battered shell of its former self, allowing for various religious and extremist elements to influence the landscape, from the New Aresians to the New Church, all
Glass Prairie
The Glass Prairie is a vast, and sparse region, with only a few settlements located in the heartlands of the Prairie. It stretches from the eastern edge of the Jeevan River, down towards Lesser Mediolama and Zayantia. Most of the Prairie is considered a frontier, with few settlements being connected to the wider government. The Region has had historical trouble with banditry and lawlessness following the collapse of the People's Republic of Lordania. The largest city in the area is Goldbutte, which is considered the regional capital due to its population and size. It is governed by the Booker Group, a collection of landowners and industrialists that seek to form a state to govern the Prairie on their own terms. They exert influence across the region, and often attempt to buy out or strong-arm the various settlements into cooperation. What they cannot pay for they will try to take.   The city of Goldbutte is located in the western edges of the Prairie, around the butte that gives the city its name. The city sits atop a profitable gold seam, with many mining operations established in the area to harvest it. This gold is often a target for the bandit clans of the prairie, and during the early days of the Interregnum, large amounts of gold were stolen by outlaws. This Lost Gold of the Glass Prairie has become a regional legend, supposedly still located somewhere in the prairie, and always attracting some fools in search of it - easy pickings for the remaining bandits.   Other major settlements in the region include the city of Chipana, located south-west of Goldbutte. It is one of the largest settlements within the Glass Prairie, and relies heavily on the vast aquifer that lies below the city. It has grown profitable selling water to neighbouring towns in the region, and holds considerable influence. Chipana is also home to the Whippler Cartel, once a collection of petty urban criminals that unified during the Great Revolution, eventually transitioning into a local government, albeit one with a peculiar blend of mob rule.   The Whippler Cartel has been working on redesigning it's image as a legitimate government in an attempt to form a greater Glass Prairie nation, competing against the Booker Group for influence over the various settlements in the area, as well as recognition from the Mediolama Regional Government, the current ruler of the region under the Provincial system. As such, the two powers are locked in the Race for Prairie Independence.
Cahir Plains
The Cahir Plains are a region of grasslands to the west of the Tornado Bowl. The Plains are governed by the Republic of Cahir and is home to a sizable population of Terstánach. The largest city in the region is Linegal, settled on the south shores of the Souls Lake.   The Cahir Plains have been the site of many historical land conflicts between various states, often between Nevokie and Pinasc cattle ranchers in the days before unification. During the early years of the Interregnum, the Republic of the Humble Servants of God claimed ownership of the entire region, which forced the smaller settlements of Cahir to unite into the modern Republic of Cahir to defend themselves. The brief Cahir Independence War took place between in the year 46 PC, with several battlefields remaining visible in the northern regions of Cahir, around the town of Ballyfa. Both states continue to express mutual dislike into the modern day. The Jeevan River marks the border between Big Basin and Cahir, and both sides have fortified their positions.
Big Basin
Big Basin is a region of Western Mediolama. It is bounded in the north and east by the great Pinascimate Mountains, and by the Huángjīn Floodplain in the north-east. To the east, the Jeevan River cuts a path into Tornado Bowl. The entire south of Big Basin is bound by the Jeevan and the Souls Lake, with the Cahir Plains lying on the other side. The Jericho River marks the basin's western boundary, with a route into Samawash in the north east. Big Basin is under the control of the Republic of the Humble Servants of God, a theocratic democracy led by the Bishop-President Sarah H. Fischer. It is led from the city of Jesus-Save-Our-Souls, located on the north bank of the Souls Lake. During the Interregnum, the Humble Servants declared ownership over much of the southern Cahir Plains, leading to the Cahir Independence War, and the recognition of the independent Republic of Cahir to the south. The Humble Servants, the Aresian Recluse, and the Cahir Republic have all begun competing over the city of Rothberg, a vital trading city with strategic importance to all three nations.
Huángjīn Floodplain
The Huángjīn Floodplain is a region of Mediolama. It lies deep within the southern side of the Pinascimate Mountains, which isolate the region on every side except south, where it is connected to Big Basin. The region is often bathed in a blanked of think fog and heavy rains, which collect and flow out of the region through the Huángjīn River, which gives its name to the region. It is sometimes known as 'The Great Mire' by its southern neighbours. The floodplain is home to the Aresian Recluse, a small and independent government that rules in the name of the Areso-Terstener in the area.   The largest city in the region is Little Terra, built within in the floodplains and elevated above the water level by a series of canals. Little Terra is considered the defacto home of the Aresians on Tersten, since the collapse of the People's Republic of Lordania and subsequent retaliations against its native peoples. The town of Goose is located in the Floodplain, near the border of Big Basin. It is used by the Recluse as a border town, where all visitors upstream are subject to passport and document checks, before either being permitted to travel upstream, or forced to return downstream. Despite many calling this a heavy-handed approach, the Aresian Recluse lives up to its name, wanting to be left alone, and so it has done its best to prevent any diplomatic incidents that would cause problems.
Samawash
Samawash is the westernmost region of Mediolama, located on the banks of the Samaritan Sea. It is home to the Samawash Republic, with its capital in New Operstone. Its inhabitants, the Samarayani, are a Samarite Peoples that originated from the planet Tyannani, within the Lordanian Cluster. This was part of a forced migration undertaken by the People's Republic of Lordania in an effort to colonise Tersten and expand its output. This resulted in an independent and angry peoples who retained much of their original culture while adapting to their new home on Tersten. They have forged close ties with the people of the Samaritan Sea, with many settlements along the coast or on occupied islands, such as Caber Point. The land extends high into the Pinascimate Mountains, where settlements such as Throxenby and Silpho provide valuable resources downriver to cities such as Jameik or Veshu.
