The Federal Province of Nevada

The Federal Province of Nevada is home to several states, most notably the República de Nevada, which controls most of the region. To its east is the Great Lakes Confederacy.

Regions

Like the rest of Tersten's many Federal Provinces, Nevada is divided into numerous geographic regions and states. Some are large, stretching for hundreds of miles and crossing numerous biomes. Others less so. Overall, the Federal Province of Nevada is divided into three distinct areas: East, Central, and West.

Central Nevada

Central Nevada is the heartland of the Federal Province. It is not only the oldest settled part of the province, but its most developed. The capital city, Nevada, lies here, snaking out across the land to become the planet's most populated city. (Not counting the greater Tersten City Metropolitan Zone.) Divided into Libertas, Nevada City, Lakeland Vale, and the Pride Wolds, Central Nevada is the homeland of the Nevokie People and the epicentre of their influence over the rest of Tersten.

Libertas

Libertas lies south of Nevada City and is a forested land focused around Lake Liberty. The largest city here is Liberty itself. It is the second oldest city in Nevada and a major industrial hub. Lake Liberty is a major transport link for ships, as its river connections allows for travel to several major destinations, most notably its connection to the White Ocean via the Jeevan River River.
Libertas is bound in the north by the Pride Wolds and Nevada City, in the east by the Barkeater Hills, in the south by the Montana Glacier, and in the west by the Deutschlands and the Great Pearlstone Cut. It is a land of forests, farmland and waterways. Small towns and villages dot the landscape, often located close to a river or important resource, such as Bannendorf, located near the borders of Libertas and the Deutschlands, where it has grown to become an important mining town.

Pride Wolds

The Pride Wolds lie west of Nevada and covers much of the expansive territory from the Jeevan to the Pearlstone Mountains. The land largely untamed wilderness, an expansive moor stretching for miles around. There is very little in terms of urban development, with most of the population living in small hamlets and towns, often only connected by a single road. The largest settlement in the Wolds is the riverside town of Summerburg. It is nestled along the banks of the Stone River, and is an old milling town, dating back to the early days of the Penal Colony, when protestors and convict families migrated here to support their loved ones.

Lakeland Vale

Lakeland Vale is the smallest geographic region of Nevada, and lies squarely at its northernmost points, where it borders the Federal Province of Mediolama and Federal Province of the Lawless Frontier. The town of Sprigthorp is the largest settlement in the Lakeland Vale area. It is a minor settlement, on the banks of the Fiume della Grotta Lunare, a minor river that flows through the Pearlstone Caves to the west. The river leaves the caves through five channels, creating the large, almost wall-like waterfalls that the Lakeland Vale is known for.

Nevada City

The City of Nevada is a sprawling unplanned metropolis along the banks of the Jeevan River. Initially founded in response to the establishment of the Pinascimate Penal Authority, it rapidly grew into its own sprawl of districts, boroughs, and areas. It has been home to the República de Nevada since its inception, though during the occupation of the Tersten State, the Republic lay in exile, awaiting its return. It is the hub of Nevokie activity, and an incredibly diverse city. The Nevada City region stretches west of the Jeevan into the territory of Little Hellas, and east into the Liberty Range, which divides Central Nevada and the Barkeater Hills.

The Rugged West

The Rugged West is stretch of remote and sparsely populated land in South Tersten. It is a land of numerous biomes, from ice-capped mountains, to desert, to massive taiga forests and vast stretches of permafrost tundra. It is home to many largely autonomous ranches, controlled by powerful families and left to their own affairs. The influence of the Republic of Nevada is felt in name only, but this is rapidly changing. The rapid colonisation of previously uncharted territory in the Southwatch has prompted the creation of the Republic's Southern Colonial Expanse.

Great Pearlstone Cut

The Great Pearlstone Cut is a region of Western Nevada situated around the Pearlstone Mountains, leading up towards the Pearlstone Pass, a harsh and difficult cut across the mountains into Lawless and the Sahamptha Desert. The Pearlstone Pass has caused the death of countless travellers and explorers, leaving mummified remains as a reminder of the harsh, untamed wilds of Tersten. There is no road crossing the Pass, but that hasn't stopped trails and hiking routes all the way to the head of the Pearly River, which flows down through the Pass and into the rest of the Cut, where it joins the Stone River down towards Lake Liberty.
Further south of the mountains, the cut becomes a forested land of rolling hills and rivers, most notably the Stone River. The largest city here is Barnett. Barnett is an old city, established during the Great Rush West in 15 PC. Barnett was heavily damaged during the Great Revolution, and has undergone large revitalization efforts, leading it to become the Republic's easternmost metropolitan.

Deutchlands

The Deutschlands are the largest region of Western Nevada, mostly comprised of rolling hills and lush plains. The land is fertile, but cold, leading to a sub-arctic climate over much of its southern regions, especially along the border of the Southwatch.
The Deutschlands are under the control of the Republic of Nevada, however they are divided into various states, some with more autonomy than others. While states like the Nevadan Southern Colonial Expanse have their capital at Badafeld, and the Southwatch Republic have been granted rights over the unsettled lands at the very east of the Deutschlands, it is the most fertile land that is the most divided. Here, the Deutschlands are divided between various Rancher Barons, each with a feud against another. Most of the violence between these families flared up during the Revolution and the Interregnum, and while there are no longer open shootouts and battles, tensions still run high.

Stone River

Stone River is the name given to the region surrounding the source of the Stone River, north of the Great South Basin, and a highly forested and undeveloped part of Nevada. The river flows down from the Adhogokand and flows through numerous caves, waterfalls, valleys and canyons on its way into the Deutschlands, Pride Wold, and Libertas on its way into the Jeevan River. Its waters eventually make its way to the White Ocean itself. The only major settlement here is Filz, situated on the banks of the river, and reachable via boat from as far away as Nevada City. Filz has various connections upstream towards Adhogokand and the Mehkstandun.

Southwatch

The Southwatch is a small, marshy province located close to the antarctic circle. The land is largely permafrosted tundra, but pockets of pine forests can be found in the northern parts of the region, largely along the Bloody Lakes, which make up the river boundary between the Deutschlands and the Southwatch. Despite this, the land is home to numerous settlements and peoples, the largest being Crippled Bone. The ancient Sar'ket ruin of Sarqandajak lies here, far to the west, in the Arcticai Reach, the mountain range that defines the border between Nevada and the Federal Province of Yukela.
Southwatch stretches far into the east, where it borders the Montana Glacier. East and West Southwatch are split between the Southwatch Republic, which governs from Crippled Bone; and the Nevadan Southern Colonial Expanse, which governs from Belafeld in the Deutschlands but with most of its territory in east Southwatch.

Great South Basin (Nevadan Controlled)

The Great South Basin is a lowlying and arid region dividing the Federal Province of Nevada and the Federal Province of Yukela. It was settled by Terstnathi long before Humans first colonised Tersten, after a vessel crashed on the planet roughly 34 years before the founding of the PPA. Today the Great South Basin is divided into East and West, with the East Basin lying in Nevada and the West Basin lying in Yukela.

Adhogokand

The Adhogokand is a region deep within the Pearlstone Mountains, inhabited by various Tajkhent clans that were settled on the planet during the era of the Tersten State. It is a land of high, impassible mountains, glaciers, and is the true source of the Stone River. It is considered mountainous, semi-arid, with little rainfall. All water comes from the Stone River as it flows through the Adhogokand and out towards Filz and the Lake Liberty. Together, the clans make up the Mehkstandun, with its recognised capital at Duladu. The Tajkhenti have constructed a capable fortress at Namsekhran, where the Stone River flows out into the rest of Nevada. The great water processing plants of Holkrodun were constructed under the watch of the Tersten State, and were the sight of many fierce battles during the Great Revolution.

Eastern Nevada

Eastern Nevada is a land completely contrasted by its western and central counterparts. It is dominated by the vast Montana Range and its glaciers. It is extremely wet, home to numerous lakes and rivers. It is almost entirely independent from the Republic of Nevada, instead controlled by various independent nations. The largest of these is the Great Lakes Confederacy, a unified bloc of five states acting as one to represent their interests. East Nevada is the largest part of Nevada, and would be its most populated region, were it not for Nevada City skewing the odds massively.

Montana Glacier

The Montana Glacier is a massive region that largely contains the Montana Range, a broad mountain range that contains the aforementioned Glacier. The region is scarred and contains multitudes of valleys, passes, and cuts between the winding ice sheets. Most of the water flowing from the glaciers head out into the White Ocean. It is bound in the north by Libertas and the Barkeater Hills, in the east by the Valley of the Lakes, in the west by the Southwatch and Deutschlands, and in the south by the harsh Tersten antarctic. As Tersten does not have polar ice caps, travel over the south pole is possible. The Montana Glacier is divided between three nations; the Republic of Nevada, who controls the north side of the mountains; Mambona, which lies in the southern parts of the Glacier, nestled in a protected valley; and the Great Lakes Confederacy, who controls most of the Eastern Glacier.
The Northern Glacier is dominated by great fur trees and mountain trails, the ancient relics of the glacier's maximum. It is here that the city of Montana is located, as well as prominent towns such as Sarino and Montana Pass. It is also home to Route 78, a highway running between the city of Montana, through the mountains and over the Montana Pass into Nevada. Its most famous landmark is Trading Stop Julia, which began life as a resting stop along the historical trail, and served a major role as headquarters of the exiled Mambona and Great Lakes leadership during the Revolution.
The Southern Glacier is home to the nation of Mambona, a nation largely isolated for most of the year by vast ice sheets. It lies deep within the Mamnana Valley, not large enough to warrant its own region. Despite its harsh nature, its people have made it a welcome home, with their capital at Timona, a rapidly growing city. Other major settlements include Joma, and Kiwafu. There is a small connection through the ice towards the Great Lakes Confederacy, but travel through this pass is restricted mostly to locals who know the terrain. It is nigh impassible otherwise.
Finally the Eastern Glacier is a very hilly and forested terrain, and extremely wet. The Montana Glacier provides most of the water that feeds the Great Lakes, and it is here at its source that the true scale of the ice can be appreciated. The largest city here is Kimcheng.

Barkeater Hills

The Barkeater Hills are a region of forested hills that lay east of Libertas, beyond the Liberty Range. Its two major cities, St. Francis and Two Brothers, are well regarded places of history and culture, and the region is a part of the greater República de Nevada.
