Federal Province of Yukela

The Federal Province of Yukela is one of Tersten's most developed Provinces, home to sizable corporate investment and influence. It is a land of hills, forests and rivers and lies in both the south-eastern and south-western hemisphere.

Geographic Regions

Yukela

Yukela is a vast continent of forests and plains, home to South Harelstone which stands as the capital of the Yukela Pradesh, as well as a significant amount of corporate developmentt. The region is shielded by the large Yukela Mountains to the north-west, west, and south-west, the Pearlstone Mountains to the east and north-east, with the South Tersten Sea located in the south and south-west. It is divided into six distinct regions, many with their own cultures, traditions, and beliefs. These are:
Yukela Proper
Yukela Proper is a region of land lying in central Yukela. The Ashinga River marks the boundary beween Yukela Proper and the Chandra Plateau, as well as the border with Padrauna via the Bhatar Lake.   It is here in Yukela Proper that the capital of the Pradesh, South Harelstone can be found. It is a major urban area stretching for many miles beyond the city, and home to most of Tersten's corporate influences. It lies to the south of the Lake of Tranquillity, so named by several former Luna colonists.   The Lake of Tranquillity supports the majority of Yukela Proper's development, as the cities of Gaupel, Kanarak, Khurrampur, and Chowade are all located along its shores. It flows out via the Ishinga River intto the Ashinga, which join south of the city of Ringapat, flowing towards the South Tersten Sea. It flows into the Ashinga Estuary, where the city of Afansoc-Nandikhila and its major ports are located. The southermost point of Yukela Proper is located here, near the town of Barati, a famous tourist spot for citizens of South Harelstone.   Much of the Yukela region is forested, but large areas of land have been cleared for both farming and industrial development. Urban build-up is common throughout the entire region, with many towns and cities settled across the land. Yukela Proper stretches from the northern Degmyur Pass, which connects Yukela Pradesh with the Sahamptha Desert, to the city of Littlewood, which lies on the South Tersten Sea.
Chandra Plateau
The Chandra Plateau lies in western Yukela, and is an ancient land steeped in misty forested hills and high mountainous terrain leading up to the impassable faces of the Yukela Mountains. Its human history dates back to the first settling of Yukela by the Chandrai People that call this land their home.   The oldest and most famous settlement is the city of Kadari, historical capital of the Chandra Free State, situated on the shores of the Kadari Reach. It was levelled by the Tersten State during the War of Chandran Submission in 29 PC, and rebuilt as a horrific, industrial-focused planned city of concrete and pollution. Even following the Great Revolution, the city still bares these scars.   Beyond Kadari, the Silicon Mountain remains the Chandrai's most prized possession, as the lands around Pradhan Lake are rich with precious metals that fuel Tersten's growing electronics need. Pradhan Lake has become extremely polluted due to the mining operations in the area, leading to a breakdown in relations between the Pradesh and the Free State over downstream water quality issues.
Waisamlang
Waisamlang, or the Northern Yukela Mounatins, are a region of Yukela known for their highlands, mounains, and montane forests. It is divided between the Yukela Pradesh and the Republic of the Saling Valley. The eastern parts of Waisamlang lie under the control of the Yukela Pradesh, which includes the mining town of Sotik, the Lossom trading port, the city of Yukela, named after the mountains it is settled within and a major alpine tourist resort; and the town of Lukkadi, which lies on the border between Yukela Proper and Waisamlang.   The Ashinga River has its source in Waisamlang, in the northern mountain lands around the town of Kyaude. It flows south through the Saling Valley, which has been heavily industrialised by the Republic, based in the city of Waisam. Much of the lands north of the Saling Valley is mountainous and untamed wildlands, something its inhabitants are proud of and are keen to protect its natural beauty, though at the expense of the government, who would very much like to properly exploit the land it claims to own.
Padrauna
Padrauna, the land of forests and fighters, lies south of Yukela Proper and the Ashinga River. The Irwanda River makes up the northern borders with the Chandra Plateau, and the Hanur Gap lies over the Telauli Highlands to the west. In the south, the South Tersten Sea and the Donaghadee Peninsula make up its southern edges.   Padrauna is home to the Democratic Republic of Padrauna, with its capital at Kharseng, founded back in 12 PC by escaped penal convicts from the PPA Colonial Expanse. Its second largest city is Zazi, founded in 44PC on the southern banks of the Bhatar Lake by the Tersten Resistance. Initially serving as a refugee camp and base of operations, it has grown significantly in the post-revolution years as a multicultural hub.   Padrauna is home to a large number of Sikhs, including the former president of Padrauna, Kanur Rashid, better known as the Great Bear of Yukela for his fight for a free Yukela during the Great Revolution. It is a tolerant and diverse patch of Yukela, and a loyal part of the Yukela Pradesh.
Grettan Apupo
Grettan Apupo is a region of Yukela that lies to the south east, along the northern shores of the South Tersten Sea. It is governed by the Ubotsi Republic, a minor, semi-independent nation within the Yukela Pradesh. It is a mountainous highlands region that extends down to the South Tersten Sea, where the coast fills with inlets and rias to form small islands along the coast. Many of these islands are inhabited by the Grettani.   Historically, this region has been home to a multi-ethnic group of people known as the Grettani, who fought against the Tersten State to secure an independent nation for themselves. This state has governed from its capital Sujuna since 50 PC, with coastal towns such as Kochano and Telava being connected by road, and ferry routes from Sujana to the island of Bogveri and beyond towards Duliajan.   The regions biggest shakeup came in 59 PC, when the Riohacha Pact came into effect, strengthening the power and influence of the Pradesh in Ubotsi, allowing off-world corporations more control over traditionally Grettan lands, leading to unrest and migrations. By the modern day, the Ubotsi exists in name only, almost entirely integrated as part of the Pradesh. But the people have long folk memories, and plan in the shadows to regain their independence.
Donaghadee Peninsula
The Donaghadee Peninsula is a heavily developed region of Yukela, surrounded by the South Tersten Sea on three sides, and bordered by Padrauna in the north, the Lawa Expanse in the south, and the Hanur Mountains in the west.   Donaghadee is the homeland of the Terstánach, governed by the Poblacht na Donaghadee, independent from the Pradesh, and united in the Terstánach Union. There are five cities on the Peninsula; the capital city of Carran; the naval port of Lehinch, the cultural capital of Rostellan, the city of Copperalley, and the city of Stroove.   Donaghadee is dominated by its central highland and fertile plains, most of the land entirely deforested. In its place are vast farmlands and estates, akin to most places on Tersten. The Terstánach have lived in this land since the Age of Nations, and fought in the Great Revolution for an independent nation, founding the Poblacht na Donaghadee in 47PC. While they have friendly ties to the Pradesh, and enjoy the economic benefits of trade and open borders, they have successfully resisted any attempts at further integration, unlike many of their neighbours

The Copperlands

The Copperlands is the name given to the region west of Yukela. It has close political and economic ties to its neighbour, with a shared history of conquest and resistance.
Hanur Gap
The Hanur Gap is a region to the west of Yukela. It is a valley region that runs between the Yukela Mountains and the Hanur Mountains, directly to the east of Padrauna. For much of Tersten history, the Hanur Gap has been the major route into Yukela.   The valley splits into the two Hanur Corridors; the Northern Corridor, with the city of Logan sitting at its further edge; and the Western Corridor, which opens up into the Greenstone Valley region. The town of Bebelame sits at the Gap's southern edge, on the Lawa Expanse. The Northern Corridor is one considered the most culturally significant, as it contains the village of Morita and the town of Leadball. Leadball lies some distance from the Sar'ket Ruin known as Ixenampanii, a massive former city complex. The Copper River's source is located up in the mountains near here.   Walong is a major city in the Hanur Gap, and an important transport link on the land routes out of Yukela. Because of this, has often been called the 'Gateway to Yukela'. Historically, the city of Walong was subject to several years of banditry following the retreat of Unitarian forces into the heartland of Yukela. In the absence of local government, the city, as well as the Hanur region, was plagued with bandit and outlaw groups, and many different bands of people fought over control of the city. The most notable of these was in 48, when Selenga Ootung and the Morita Sisters launched an attack to seize control of the city. The city was liberated by the Tersten Army in 50. Since then, the city has recovered to become the capital of the Walong Republic.
Clearwater Highlands
The Clearwater Highlands are a mess of mountainous passes and rivers, flowing down from glacial meltwaters and forming many large mountain lakes. All of this water makes its way down the mountains and into the Copper River. The region has many small dams, providing the majority of power to the Greenstone Valley region.
Balahanura
Balahanura is a vast and forested region that lies to the south of Hanuria. It is cold, wet, and has been fought over by its inhabitants since the fall of the Tersten State. It is bordered in the north by the Hanur Gap, in the east by the Lawa Expanse, in the south by the Mowtaak Mountain Range and the Frozen Sea, and in the west by Transomhana.   It lies contested between the Pradesh, the Republique des Vachères, Omhania, and the Transomhan Republic. For much of occupied history, the land has been quiet and uneventful, but following the Great Revolution, it has become a contested land between the now independent Vachéres and the Transomhans, who fight among themselves while never directly contesting the Pradesh.   The Nogroth River is a major waterway flowing down from the Hanur Mountains and through the region of Balahanura. It merges with the Bishen River and flows out into the Frozen Sea, which dominates the Balahanuran southern coast. The Frozen Sea, like its name suggests, is iced over for much of the year, requiring the use of icebreaker vessels for travel between the coastal communities of Killargo and Hellmore.
Greenstone Valley
The Greenstone Valley is the westernmost region of Yukela Pradesh. It takes its name from the abundance of green minerals and rocks present across this part of the planet, present in many outcroppings and cliff faces. The Copper River that flows through the entire valley towards Port John and White Ocean gets its name from the large amounts of sediment and deposits that gives the river its jade-like appearance. It is bordered in the north by Narado, in the east by the Clearwater Highlands and Hanur Gap, in the south by the Copper Corridor, and in the west by the Samhill Basin and Onooga Frontier.   The largest city in the Greenstone Valley is the city of Coppermouth, home to a large Terstánach community, and most known for the Coppermouth Candy corporation. The second largest city is Xiquila, home of Xiquila Tiquila. Further upstream is the community of Copper River-Tobago, most known for its tobacco production. Overall, this makes the Greenstone Valley one of Yukela's most productive regions, almost entirely industrialised and connected with more railways than most of Yukela Proper.
Narado
Narado is a mountainous region in the northern Copperlands. Narado is the southern faces of the Western Yukela Mountains, lying on the border with the Federal Province of Western Sahamptha. It is bordered in the north by the Wetlands and the Hawar Valley, in the east by the Mapuraray Range, in the south by the Greenstone Valley, and in the west by the White Ocean.   Narado's biggest, and most important city is Port John, home to the largest port this side of the White Ocean. The Republic of Port John governs the city mostly autonomously, making it extremely wealthy. The rest of Narado is far less developed, and largely mountainous arid land, with only a few roads leading over the Yukela Mountains and into Harmony. Eastern Narado is a bowl formation, with mountains on all sides and a dip in the middle, where the city of Riohacha is located. It has close ties to its neighbour, the Kingdom of Mapuraray, with road and rail connections to Kothi and beyond.   Riohacha was where the Riohacha Pact was signed, which brought together most nations that make up the Yukela Pradesh, as well as its allies.
Copper Corridor
The Copper Corridor is a region divided between the Yukela Pradesh, and the Republique des Vachères. It is a fertile river valley, allowing for easy access into the Onooga Frontier. It is bordered in the north by the Greenstone Valley, in the east by Balahanura, in the south by the Omhan Mountains, and in the west by Bishen.   It is home to several major cities, including Avierge and Lopet. The construction of the Lopet Canal in 67 PC has allowed for boats to travel between the Copper River and the Bishen River, increasing trade and allowing for Yukelan influence to penetrate further south.
Lawa Expanse
The Lawa Expanse is a region of forested hills and rivers that runs east to west south of the Hanur Mountains. It extends from the South Tersten Sea and onto Balahanura. In the east, the city of Lawa serves as the region's capital, as well as being home to the Lawa Republic, which governs the entire region, as well as parts of Balahanura and the Northwatch. The Lawa Expanse is bordered in the north by the Hanur Mountains and Donaghadee, in the east by the South Tersten Sea and Northwatch, in the south by the great Mowtaak Mountain Range, an impassable set of peaks around Tersten's south pole, and in the west by Balahanura.   The 'La is a major river that runs through the Expanse and serves as a major artery through the region. There is one road connection that follows the path of the river, before it connects with the Nogroth River near the towns of Bantol and Jatan. This marks the official border between Yukela and the Copperlands.   Today, Lawa is well known for its hiking trails across the region. The Stannards Peninsula is located to the south of Lawa, and home to roughly a dozen camping resorts, with popular spots for sailing, fishing, and exploring. Numerous boat routes connect the Peninsula with the South Tersten Isles and other places further ashore.

Duliajan

Duliajan lies to the East and South of Yukela. It is a land of many things, from mountainous river valleys, lowlying floodplains, and arid basins. It is divided into four regions, and is home to several independent powers. The largest of these is the Duliajan Federal Republic, with its capital in Ranganati.
Northern Duliajan
North Duliajan is a lowlying region dominated by the Lạng Kỳ Cùng River and the Bogara River. It is bordered in the north by the Pong Nam Highlands, in the east by the Great South Basin, in the south by Southern Duliajan and the South Tersten Sea, and in the west by the Lang Ky Cung and Yukela Proper.   Ranganati, the largest city in Duliajan is settled here on the banks of the South Tersten Sea. It is a major urban area, spreading up as far as the city of Zhong'an. Ranganati is the capital of the Duliajan Federal Republic, which governs this region of Yukela. The region is major player for the Tersten Military-Industrial Complex, with many weapon manufacturer's headquarters located in the city. Zhong'an lies on the Lang Ky Cung estuary, and is an island city, separated on all sides by water, reliant on its many bridges are ports. Boghar is an important trading stop on the Bogara River, lying downstream from the Great South Basin and the Ashak'arrat. It is seen as the first major stop on the route into Yukela from Nevada.
Southern Duliajan
Southern Duliajan is a cold, subalpine region dominated by thick pine forests. It is bordered in the north by Northern Duliajan, in the east by the Great South Basin and the Southwatch, in the south by the Northwatch, and in the west by the South Tersten Ocean.   The largest city in the region is Shenjin, which lies on the coast near the island of Buckingham. Shenjin is a major industrial city and the regional capital. It has historical connections with Buckingham and the Areso-Terstener people that reside there. During the Siege of Buckingham   , Shenjin was home to the Tersten Army, which retain a large presence in the city.
Pong Nam Highlands
The Pong Nam is a region of highlands and montane forests north of the Great South Basin. It is bordered in the north by the Pearlstone Mountains, in the east by the Stone River, in the south by the Great South Basin, and in the west by Duliajan. The highlands are relatively unsettled, though were home to various resistance outposts during the Great Revolution.   The largest city here is Dỡ, on the Lang Ky Ki, a tributary river of the Lang Ky Cung. It lies close to the Pearlstone Mountains, and the various land connections into the fertile valley regions that lie around the source of the Lang Ky Cung. Dỡ is a major industrial city, home to a number of factories. As such, it has many connections to other cities in Duliajan, and river connections downstream to Ranganati's ports.
Lạng Kỳ Cùng
The Lạng Kỳ Cùng River flows up through the highlands of the Pearlstone Mountains, and is home to a large community of people known as the Culcaxi that predate the founding of the Tersten State. The region is bordered in the north by the Southern Sahamptha Desert, in the east by Duliajan and the Pong Nam Highlands, and in the south and west by Yukela Proper.   There are many cities settled here along the Lang Ky Cung, with the biggest being the city of Kampong Loya. Its most famous is the city of Háha, where the Háha Revolution took place in 44 PC.
Great South Basin
Bullcroft is a very old city, established long before the founding of Yukela and Duliajan. It was established by Nevokie settlers into the region, serving as a main trading post with the Terstnathi, alongside the city of Johnsmarsh. The Great South Basin has been inhabited since long before the arrival of humanity, as the Hssang'gak is the site of the crashed Hssang'gak science vessel. Most of the Great South Basin is under the control of the Ashak'arrat, though some parts of the Basin lie under the control of Ranganati and Nevada.
Northwatch
The Northwatch is a region of Duliajan located on the south coast of the South Tersten Sea. It lies around Tersten's Antarctic Mountains. Due to Tersten's lack of an ice-capped south pole, passage over the mountains is definitely possible, connecting it to nearby Southwatch, located in the Federal Province of Nevada. However, the region is still extremely cold and lacking in settlement. It is a predominantly wild land, with its largest settlement being the town of Creeton, which lies on the coast and is connected via boat to the town of Stannings, in Lawa. The entire region is under the control of the Lawa Republic, being seen as little more than an uncolonised frontier.
South Tersten Sea and Islands
The South Tersten Sea is a major body of freshwater located entirely within the Federal Province of Yukela. It is the lifeblood for much of Southeast Tersten, with numerous cities and settlements lying along its banks. The South Tersten Sea is also home to countless islands, ranging from minor seamounts to large and inhabited islands. It is home to a vast population of fish and birds, though these have recently come under threat following off-shore resource exploitation by Yukelan Corporations. The Bombing of the Jinx   was a major incident that saw the destruction of an off-shore drilling platform by anti-corporate fighters.   The two largest of the South Tersten Islands are Buckingham and Kilarnie, both home to a sizable population. Kilarnie is governed by the Poblacht na Donaghadee, while Buckingham is governed directly by the Yukela Pradesh following the infamous Siege of Buckingham   in 47 PC.

Yukela is a large wooded region located in South-East Tersten. It is the most inaccessible of all regions on Tersten, with only a few mountain passes connecting the region by land, most transport is done via ship to Port John and then overland through the regions only major highway system into Yukela proper, though the Hanur Gap.   Yukela is part of the greater Yukela Pradesh, which administrates the larger area. Yukela is divided into several divisions, including the Democratic Republic of Padrauna and Duliajan.   The region is divided into several smaller regions and republics. Since the Great Revolution, large parts of Yukela are divided into minor republics, such as the Democratic Republic of Padrauna in Padrauna, and the Chandra Free State in Chandra. Most of these regions were settled during the reign of the People's Republic of Lordania, though some cities date back to before this occupation.
