Geographic Regions
The Western Sahamptha is separated into various geographic regions. It is mostly comprised of the Sahamptha Desert, a sparsely populated landscape. However, along the coast and deep into mountains, the region is home to a surprising number of wetlands, jungles, and forests.
The Sahamptha Desert
The
Sahamptha Desert is a vast equatorial desert that runs across much of central Tersten. The Western Sahamptha Desert is entirely controlled by the
Dustbowler Collective. It is divided into four distinct regions:
Bibisangi Reach
Bibisangi Reach is a geographic region in the Western Sahamptha. It borders the Shank Basin to the north, the Izaggh to the west, The Mesa to the south, and the lands of the Hancho to the east. The city of
Bibisango lies at the heart of the Reach, atop the elevated plateau raised above the Sahamptha Desert. It is a temperate region, with warm days and cool nights. The region is kept green by the
Řoaßĕ Mere, which flows down from the Western Greenlime Mountains.
The
Dustbowler Collective administers the region in the name of the Republic of Tersten, governing from Bibisango. The Reach has been heavily developed, far more than other areas of the Sahamptha, though most of its development has been towards expanding Bibisango, and connecting the city via road, rail, and air, even at the expense of smaller towns in the area.
Izaggh
The
Izaggh is a near inhospitable region of the Sahamptha Desert. The Izaggh itself is a raised massif that is surrounded on all sides by the undulating sand dunes that make up this part of the great desert. There is only one city in the region, Huizinga, which lies at the base of the Bartolomé Mountains, near the pass into the Shank Basin. Other settlements in the area include Sawola, which lies on the route between Bibisango and the rest of the Dustbowler Collective, and Safinha, which lies at the base of the Izaggh itself.
Pablosland
Pablosland is one of the largest regions within the Western Sahamptha. Much of the region is uninhabited desert, but the northern territories of Pablosland are fertile enough to support animal grazing, with the
Rancho Do Sol being a significant producer of meat for the entire region. There are only a few settlements in this inhospitable landscape, most notably the Rancho Do Sol, Spanoly, and Fraesti. Deep in the heart of the desert lies Faanerizze'kan, one of the
Sar'ket Ruins.
South Central Sahamptha
The
South Central Sahamptha is a region within the Western Sahamptha. It lies on the northern side of the
Pearlstone Mountains and the
Yukela Mountains, where the desert pushes right up to the mountains edge, its vast rain shadow depriving the area of clouds and rain. The largest city in the area is
Lancus, a city with a history tied to the Unitarians and the People's Republic. Established during the era of the Tersten State, it served as a border town protecting the
Degmyur Pass, which allows crossing into Yukela, and the
South Central Sahamptha. Following the collapse of the People's Republic, Lancus became a home for many Unitarian veterans and survivors, until the
Lancus Slayings prompted many to flee the city. It remains an industrial-focused city, with many steel mills and foundries dotting its outer limits. To the south, the Degmyur Mountains are home to small settlements such as Baytimur, Chakah and Kherich. In the east, the land slowly gives way to rolling hills, leading into the Daranthene Mountains.
Hawar
Hawar is the coastal region of the Western Sahamptha, where many valleys and stream flow down from the mountains and into the marshlands of the Wetlands. Unlike the desert, this is a land of fertile marshes and grasslands, fed by a vast network of rivers and waterways making their way into the White Ocean. Its position on the equator leaves it a hot and humid landscape that absorbs most of the water blown in from the coast, helping to keep Hawar wet and the Sahamptha Desert dry.
The Wetlands
The Wetlands are considered the heartland of the
Hawarami Federation, which controls most of the coastal areas of the Western Sahamptha. The Wetlands, as its name suggests, is a region of marshland that has been steadily terraformed and colonised. It is home to many vibrant settlements, such as
Harmony,
Croakings Of The Frog On The Lilypad, and Hot Air On A Warm Night. It is home to a large
Hawarami population.
Harmony Basin
The
Harmony Basin is a region of the Western Sahamptha, and part of the Hawarami Federation. It is considered their breadbasket, where large quantities of produce are grown. It is home to settlements such as Reflections Of Rain In The Windows, Water Flowing Down River, and the Crystal Spire.
Hawar Valley
The Hawar Valley is a region up in the
Yukela Mountains that borders the Greenstone Valley and the Federal Province of Yukela. It is divided between the Hawarami Federation and the Kingdom of Mapuraray, with the town of
Gorkhem being contested by them both.
Daranthene
Daranthene is a largely mountainous region of the Western Sahamptha. It makes up the northermost parts of the
Yukela Mountains. It is home to the Yukladia Lake and the city of New Acacara, established by settlers from Yuklid during the days of the People's Republic. The land surrounding Yukladia Lake is wet and swampy, and following the signing of the
Sol-Lordania Migration Treaty, has become home to a sizable number of Qiponi settlers. Like the
Great Lakes Confederacy, Daranthene is home to a majority Arywenn human population.
Mapuraray Range
The
Mapuraray Range is located in the Yukela Mountains. It is a region of small hills, plains, and lakes, elevated high in the mountains. The Hawar Valley lies to the north, and the Greenstone Valley lies to the west. These are the only two ways into the Mapuraray Range, due to the impassable mountains to the east and south. It is situated between the Federal Province of Western Sahamptha to the north, and the Federal Province of Yukela. Historically, the range has been part of Western Sahamptha, as the region was part of the Hawarami Federation until 67 PC, when the
Kingdom of Mapuraray declared independence, and has since pursued closer ties with Yukela.
Governments
Hawarami Federation
The
Hawarami Federation is a collection of 22 federal states in the Western Sahamptha. It controls the Harmony Basin, Daranthene, the Hawar Valley, and The Wetlands. The Federation has a President, elected by the 22 states, with its government convening in Harmony to debate matters. The Federation was founded during the Interregnum, following the Great Revolution. The
Hawarami people have lived in the region since the final years of the
Pinascimate Penal Authority and have developed a unique culture on the planet. Its current president is
Expanded Horizons.
Dustbowler Collective
The
Dustbowler Collective is a large federation within the Western Sahamptha. Most of the land is sparcely populated and uninhabited, with power effectively coming from the city of
Bibisango. It has close ties to the Hawarami Federation, with the two states together forming the
Sahamptha Union. It is considered a Socialist Republic, with elected head of government. Its current Prime Minister is
Bisenka Graham, who was also the first Prime Minister of Dustbowler Collective, being re-elected in 73 PC. She is considered a local hero for her contributions in the
Great Revolution.
Kingdom of Mapuraray
The
Kingdom of Mapuraray is a breakaway monarchic state in the Mapuraray Range. It broke from the Hawarami Federation in 68 PC, creating a constitutional monarchy. The Kingdom is ruled directly by
High Prince Feyaneh I. The Kingdom has a civilian government in the form of a parliament, with its head being the Saffavah. Candidates are nominated by the people, though the role is ultimately appointable solely by the High Prince. He has been keep to maintain some form of democracy in this vote, though this has not stopped him using his considerable influence to have his preferred candidates nominated. Like all independent states on Tersten, the Kingdom pays token service to the Republic of Tersten, both in the form of taxes and adherence to its constitution and federal law. The Republic maintains a consulate in the city of
Mapuraray.
Rancho Do Sol
The
Rancho Do Sol is a corporate state in the Western Sahamptha. It is effectively a state-ran corporation, funded by Sol, the dominant human power in space. It is extremely lucrative, with most of the meat produced by the corporation shipped off-world. It is at odds with the Dustbowler Collective, their neighbouring state. However, it has extremely close ties to Yukela, and is part of the
Riohacha Pact.
Sahamptha Union
The
Sahamptha Union is a defensive bloc founded by the Dustbowler Collective, the Hawarami Federation, and the Calama Republic. It was initially created to legitimise the Calama Republic's claim on Santa Maria against the Dambak Confederation, but it soon became a more general Anti-Yukelan, Anti-Corporate Bloc, opposing the Riohacha Pact. It was created in direct response to the Riohacha Pact, which created a united Yukelan economic market, as well as a defensive pact of various Tersten states. The Sahamptha Union is much more disunited, with no economic unity. Attempts to create formal trading agreements with the various nations of the Union has failed, largely because of the differences in political and economic belief between the member states.
Riohacha Pact
The
Riohacha Pact is a mutual economic and defensive pact between the
Yukela Pradesh and various states across Tersten. The Kingdom of Mapuraray and the Rancho Do Sol are signatory members of the pact, and have close ties to Yukela because of it. The Pact and the Union have denounced the other as a danger to the balance of the Republic of Tersten, and it is very clear that war is a possibility between the two powers. The Riohacha Pact supported Mapuraray independence during the
Mapuraray Crisis. Their dislike for each other has led to the
Degmyur Pass being heavily fortified.
Major Cities in the Western Sahamptha

Kingdom of Mapuraray. For the longest time, it was a small farming town, but over the past decades it has ballooned into a sprawling metropolis, and one of Tersten's premier tourism hotspots. The Kingdom's economy is almost entirely geared towards tourism and industry, with Mapurary receiving most of the attention. It is home to advanced technologies at the forefront of Sol.
New Acacara
New Acacara is a small, peaceful city on the banks of the Yukladia Lake. It is home to mostly Acari residents that immigrated from Yuklid during the reign of the People's Republic. It is now home to a sizable Arywenn population.
