Hawar Valley
The Hawar Valley is a region of Tersten located within the Yukela Mountains. It is a region of grasslands extending up into the Kingdom of Mapuraray, carved out by glacial retreat several hundred-thousand years ago.
First settled by the Hawarami Federation the Hawar Valley became home to much of the agricultural industry of the Mapuraray region. While yak, goat, and other meats were available in the southern mountainous region, a distinct lack of farmable land meant the region was reliant on the Hawar Valley. Initially, this was not a problem, as both regions were under the control of a single entity. Firstly by the People's Republic of Lordania and their puppet Tersten State. Then by the Hawarami Federation, of which the province of Mapuraray played a vital role in. It was only after the Kingdom of Mapuraray gained its independence that the valley became the source of heated conflicts.
The rivers that flow through the Hawar, of which the Amamar River is the most important, are vital trading routes. From the town of Gorkhem, Mapuraray's precious metals and ores were shipped into Harmony and beyond. With Gorkhem under control of the Mapuraray, and the rest of the valley under control of the Hawarami, a sense of unease and struggle has fallen over the entire region.
During the brief Mapuraray Crisis, several battles were fought in the Hawar. The Kingdom attempted to claim sovereignty over the whole Mapuraray region. However, the agricultural region of North Mapuraray refused to join, and declared its intent to remain part of the Federation. To prevent war, and to achieve international recognition, the Kingdom recognised North Mapuraray as a part of the Federation. Mapuraray is reliant on food imports, with very limited agricultural space of its own. Currently, the 'metal for food' trade has kept the Kingdom from starving, especially as it begins to expand and look towards new horizons. If Mapuraray is able to find more favourable trading partners, then it would no longer need to rely on the Hawar.
Many villages and settlements dot the entire region, mostly isolated from one-another, and content with it. The physical damage done by the Crisis has been almost completely repaired, but a sense of unease hangs in the air.
