Kadari
Kadari is a large city in the Chandra region of Yukela. It is the capital of the Chandra Free State, and is located on the banks of the Kadari Reach, a freshwater lake. The city was rebuilt following its near destruction in 29 PC, following a minor war between Chandran rebels and the Tersten State, with much of its old world charm and historic development being lost, thanks to the Unitarian-approved City Planners that turned Kadari into the grid-like uniform city block, which many historians compare to the uniform design of 20th Century cities. Many consider Kadari to be an urban wasteland or a concrete jungle, with bland, concrete-grey city blocks choking the sky, with the only details being the remains of propaganda and broadcast screens installed by the Unitarians. The ground, either road or parking lot, allows for no green to rise up, save the unwatered and slowly dying trees placed on the sides of public boulevards. On the streets, cars and vehicles back up the roads, with its outdated and archaic focus on traffic and personal vehicles. Thanks to its Unitarian rebuilding, Kadari produces the most CO2 and other climate change-causing chemicals in the entire Yukela Pradesh. Some have even called for intervention by the Republic of Tersten to declare Kadari an environmental disaster, so that something may be done about it. They point to Kadari's increased danger of pollution-related deaths, something that is considered to be extremely rare across the whole Tersten, that is very common here in the city.
Government
Much of Chandran administrative duties take place outside of the city, in a purpose-built "Fifth Prefecture". It is well away from the smog of the city, and home to most of the ruling families of the Free State, as well as the Parliament and the Supreme Court. The Fifth Prefecture is connected via elevated rail that was constructed in the late 80s. Its Neo Indo-Tersten Architecture has inspired many, including South Harelstone, and is rapidly becoming seen as the "Architectural Style of the modern Yukela Pradesh". The Fifth Prefecture is well protected by security and police forces, as compared to the rest of the city, which has seen a small decrease in a crime level that was high during the reign of the People's Republic, who cared little for public safety and all for public suppression.
History
Kadari was first settled in 12 PC by settlers from the PPA Colonial Expanse, who founded the Chandra Free State one year later. The Old City was said to be a beautiful mix of coloured roofs and murals, elevated on a small hill so that every morning, its residents could see across the entire Kadari Reach. The Old City was almost entirely destroyed during the War of Chandran Submission between Chandra and the Tersten State. The Unitarians placed in charge of rebuilding the damaged city chose not to restore its charm, but to instead construct a horrific mess of skyscrapers and roads, to so completely destroy the charm and hope of a city that had chosen death over surrender. Though the Unitarians were defeated, and everything they stood for torn down, the tragedy of Kadari's destruction and reconstruction remains to be a sore point for many in the revived Chandra Free State.
