Glass Prairie

The Glass Prairie is a geographic area of Tersten, located in Mediolama County. It is a vast, and sparse region, with only a few settlements located in the heartlands of the Prairie. It stretches from the eastern edge of the Jeevan River, down towards Lesser Mediolama. The temperate Cahir Plains are located to the north, and the Barkeater Hills are located to the south.   Much of the central part of the Prairie is considered a frontier, with few settlements being connected to the wider government. The Region has had historical trouble with banditry and lawlessness following the collapse of the People's Republic of Lordania. The last of the outwardly dangerous bandit groups were destroyed by the Tersten Army, though many remain active in the prairie, albeit weakened and undercover.   The city of Goldbutte is located in the western edges of the Prairie, around the butte that gives the city its name. The city sits atop a profitable gold seam, with many mining operations established in the area to harvest it. This gold is often a target for the bandit clans of the prairie, and during the early days of the Interregnum, large amounts of gold were stolen by the bandits. This Lost Gold of the Glass Prairie has become a regional legend, supposedly still located somewhere in the prairie, and always attracting some fools in search of it - easy pickings for the remaining bandits.   Goldbutte is considered the regional capital due to its population and size. It is governed by the Booker Group, a collection of landowners and industrialists that seek to form a greater Glass Plains nation. They exert influence across the region, and often attempt to buy out or strong-arm the various settlements into cooperation.   Other major settlements in the region include the city of Chipana, located south-west of Goldbutte. It is one of the largest settlements within the Glass Prairie, and relies heavily on the vast aquifer that lies below the city. It has grown profitable selling water to neighbouring towns in the region, and holds considerable influence.   Chipana is also home to the Whippler Cartel, once a collection of petty urban criminals that unified during the Great Revolution, eventually transitioning into a local government, albeit one with a peculiar blend of mob rule. The Whippler Cartel has been working on redesigning it's image as a legitimate government in an attempt to form a greater Glass Prairie nation, competing against Goldbutte for influence over the various settlements in the area, as well as recognition from the Mediolama Regional Government, the current ruler of the region under the Provincial system. As such, they are locked in the Race for Prairie Independence against the Booker Group.   The towns of Shafter and Big Boot lie on the Jeevan River, and are important stops on the journey from Nevada. Both the Bookers and the Whipplers are competing for influence in both towns, which has occasionally led to 'gang violence' and 'banditry', though both groups leadership deny such accusations.   Nowhere is this conflict between the two more present than in Bacera, a town known for its production of agave. Several years ago, tensions between the Bookers and the Whipplers led to hired mercenaries setting fire to much of the town's vineyard during an armed confrontation. Since the fire, the town has become bitterly divided in their support for either side.
