Republic of Cahir
The Republic of Cahir is a minor republic located in Mediolama County, in Central Tersten. It occupies the entirety of the Cahir Plains, from which it takes its name. The Republic was founded in response to occupation of the region by the Republic of the Humble Servants of God. Following the brief Cahir Independence War, the Republic has become a minor player in the region, with close ties to the Poblacht na Donaghadee. It is a member of the Terstánach Union.
Prior to the founding of the Republic, the various Terstánach settlements in the region were part of the greater Tersten State, and governed by the People's Republic of Lordania. Various factions of the Tersten Resistance were active in this area, though they were not part of the larger Tersten Government-in-Exile. After the Great Revolution, the larger Republic of the Humble Servants of God was founded in Big Basin, and claimed ownership over both the Basin and the Cahir Plains. In response, the city of Linegal reformed their resistance militias, and declared independence from the RHSG. The other Terstánach settlements quickly joined with Linegal, forming the Republic of Cahir and declaring war for their independence. The war lasted less than a year, but several battles took place in the north, around Ballyfa. When the Tersten Army arrived, they enforced a swift ceasefire, which has held since then, but has done nothing to ease the tensions between the two states, who have heavily militarised their borders.
The modern Republic of Cahir is a member of the greater Republic of Tersten, and settles its disputes in the court of law. Like many states on Tersten, it is a microcosm of the greater political system, with various parties and factions vying for interest and dominance. The current ruling party of Cahir is the White Party, led by Cillian Byrne, who hold socially progressive views, though have done as much as they can to avoid the question of their neighbours.
