The Samaritan Sea is a major inland body of water on Tersten. It is a large, freshwater inland sea, lying on the borders of provinces. It borders
Tersten County to the East, Mediolama County to the South-East,
Lawless Frontier to the South, and
Mora County to the West. The Samaritan is a vital fishing and transport hub in North Tersten, with many rivers outflowing into the Samaritan, such as the
Adona River,
Pale Rob's River, and the
Samheel River. Flowing out of the Samaritan are the
Calopogo River and the
Jericho River, both major rivers, and connecting the Samaritan to both the
North Tersten Ocean and
White Ocean.
The Samaritan contains over 100 islands, most of them located on the western side, near Robcove. There are six island groups; the Kamicks, the Cornacks, the Trents, the Haddensia, Wyattamugo, and the East Samaritan Islands. The collective Samaritan Isles are accessible via boat or by plane.
History
The Samaritan has a long history dating back to the earliest days of colonization. Abandoned forts dating back to the Penal Authority dot many of the islands, the earliest established in 8 PC. The Twenty Years of Piracy occurred between 6 and 26 PC, when outlaw bands would take to the Sea to raid and pillage coastal settlements. The
Devil Raiders were the most noteworthy of these pirate brethren, who, under Captain Rex Álvarez, turned their jolly roger against the Penal Authority, freeing convicts and plundering vital trading routes across the Samaritan.
After the founding of the
Pinascimate Republic, piracy in the region declined significantly, with many former convicts being given pardons in exchange for joining the newly formed Tersten Navy. The few that remained on the high seas were hunted down, with the last being destroyed in 26 PC with assistance from the newly forming
Tersten State. The heavy handed tactics used to destroy the last of the pirates was a clear sign of things to come under the
People's Republic of Lordania.
The Samaritan once again saw naval action after the Devil Raiders reformed as part of the
Tersten Resistance, with many of the remaining exiled former pirates returning to assist the
Tersten Government-in-Exile. After the
Great Revolution, many Outlaw-Brigands were given a heroes reward, and finally allowed to live their retirement in peace.
