Devil Raiders
The Devil Raiders were a band of Outlaw-Brigands that plundered the Samaritan Sea between 6 and 26 PC, during the so-called Twenty Years of Piracy. Initially a loose band of disorganised pirates, the Devil Raiders achieved worldwide infamy under the command of Captain Rex Álvarez, who transformed the Raiders into a capable fighting force.
The Raiders were known for capturing ships transporting convicts across the Samaritan Sea, and often press-ganged their captives into joining their crew. Many convicts, being offered a chance to fight against their former masters, swelled the ranks of the Raiders. Towns that allowed Pinascmatian Vessels to dock were considered fair game, and the Raiders harassed supply lines from their base of operations.
Following the collapse of the Penal Authority and the end of the penal system, the Raiders began a series of disarmament, successfully disappearing into Tersten society. Many were still wanted for their crimes, and while Álvarez was able to escape the law, many were not as lucky. Pirates that refused to fade away were hunted down with extreme force, reflecting the increasing authority of the State.
Under the occupation of the People's Republic of Lordania, many former pirates were hunted down by federal and private investigators working for the Tersten State, alongside many other prominent historical outlaws and fighters. Forced out of exile by this, Rex Álvarez reformethe Devil Raiders as part of the Tersten Resistance. No longer operating on the Samaritan alone, with help from the Tersten Government-in-Exile, the Raiders launched an assault on the Unitarian stronghold of Stillwater, sailing up the Stillwater Canal and burning much of heavily militarized city to the ground.
Many of the Raiders were killed during the Great Revolution, during the intense fighting for the freedom of Tersten. After the collapse of the People's Republic, the surviving Raiders were offered honorary positions within the Tersten Navy.
Today, the legacy of the Raiders is mixed. Those who live on the shores of the Samaritan have parents who remember when these outlaw-brigands raided their homes. Those who fought in the Revolution remember them as persecuted folk who fought with great resolve against fascism.
