Rheuthen Highlands

While many think that this region only includes the vast Rheuthengage Mountains, it actually includes substantially more than Tarien's largest range. The Rheuthengage themselves extend for almost 400 leagues of twisting canyons and towering peaks if measured from Trai'dietch Pass in the southwest to floodplain of the Mothkarin River in the northeast. Along much of its southern spine it is drained by one of the continent's most majestic rivers, the Prydith, its source in its largest body of fresh water, Lake Galen. Other large lakes, like Ghendra, Truth, and Four Winds to name a few provide idyllic refuges amidst the rugged peaks.

Beyond the mountains, however, the forested foothills to the north and east make for a region perhaps even more untamed. Along its northern slopes, and extending all the way to the Wartin Gulf, the Phezrimand Gharnoth forests offer leagues of untracked pines as home to Chetria's children. The endless trees wrap around the coast of the Great North Sea and cling to the shores of the Gulf of Kharl, nearly enveloping the Highlands. While one might find the occasional Khadric or Human hunter in these reaches, their distance from civilization leaves them largely unoccupied and unexplored.

The gifts of the mountains, however, have lured generations of civilization and the region holds two of Tarien's oldest. At the heart, around the great lake lies humanity's first great kingdom - Galencia. To the north, as much dug into the mountains as built on top of them lies the Underground Kingdom of the Children of Kharl. Both have tapped into the wealth of resources that the mountains provide and they provide the lion's hare of gold, silver, iron, and Mithril to the rest of Tarien.
