Order of Shar'iish'ta
Guided by the teaching found in the Holy Shar'rah and by the ideals set forth in the Thalloxian Manifest nearly three thousand years ago, the Order of Shar'iish'ta see themselves as caretakers of Tarien, helping to guide history according to their namesake's will. Drawing their power from the land itself, where Shar'iish'ta resides, they have long shaped events great and small to keep the march of civilization one of balance. Many of their corrections, as the Elders of the Order call them, are small nudges: making a forest seem haunted to prevent the spread of settlement or luring fishermen to a new location when on becomes overfished. They have also been responsible for world changing events such introducing Legerdemain to the Soulmeliti at the fall of Naz'Asketon and recently, the Miracle of Rebirth.
To this end, they have created a global organization of stunning complexity that has endured for millenia. Ruled by a group of elders and led by the strongest of their faith, the grand Master, they guide policy in an extremely hierarchal manner. Each elder is responsible for of the six circles of Tarien - large sections of the continent such as Azermathia or the Inner Seas. Each elder then subdivides his or her circle into smaller circles, placing senior members in charge of their own region. The senior members further subdivide their regions into different territories, assigning their care to more junior members. These too are often subdivided into locales, placed under the watchful eye of inniates. Each member of the order is autonomous is his or her efforts to maintain balance. Information about events across Tarien flows up from the locales while directives to further the Order's broader agenda flow down. Promotion from one rank in the Order to the other is decided through single combat. While generally non-lethal, the battles can be ferocious with the deposed, more senior members either forced into retirement or pushed down to a more junior position.
Headquartered in the Jungles of Thallox, the Order's membership draws heavily from the Kari-Zaro and Tzecheni'korak native to that remote part of Tarien. While any race is accepted into the Order, given the proper aptitudes and faith, its leadership tends to be drawn from these two ancient races. In fact, no Grand Master has come from another race in over a millennium.
The Order meets once a decade at their Great Moot, deep within their Jungle heartland. Outsiders are generally forbidden at these events where the Elders debate policy and often set goals for the Order in the coming years.
