Great Moot Tradition / Ritual in Tarien | World Anvil

Great Moot

First held over a thousand years ago, the Great Moot is the once a decade gathering of the Order of Shar'iish'ta. Held around Midsummer’s Eve, the gathering is a celebration of Shar’iish’ta and an opportunity for members of the order to gather, discuss their guardianship of Tarien and govern their order.

Held in Shar'iish'sta's Shrine, deep within the Jungles of Thallox, most members of the order attend the festival, arriving by land, sea, and air in the weeks leading up to it. Once begun, it is a festival like nowhere on Tarien. The sounds of nature blend with the soft music from a dozen of Tarien's cultures, somehow all in harmony despite their varied origins. Odors of roasting meat and vegetables mix with the rich, damp smell of the jungle and the low murmur of voices, friends often for decades or even century given the lifespans of many druids, discuss the wonders that they have seen in the years since they last met. Animals, some natural enemies with each, wander the Moot freely, renewing their own acquaintances and participating in the festivities. With some much variety in one place, it sometimes has the feel of a menagerie.

Serious business, of course, occurs alongside the celebration which lasts from the first full Verdun before the solstice until the first full Verdun after it. New members of the order are introduced and given their assignments. Older members of the Order often seek new regional assignments from the elders, lobbying for a favorite locale or, for the ambitious, to gain a wide variety of experiences. Those of the order that feel they are ready for leadership are free to challenge the heads of the Order's six circles for their seats. These leaders, and other respected elders discuss the state of Tarien, seeking imbalances and drawing up plans to rectify them should they be found.

While the event i open to all members of the order, it is closed to the general public. Even local Kari-Zaro and Tzecheni'korak are not permitted to attend. On extremely rare cases, the elders of the Order might invite a guest to partake in an important discussion. Those guests are carefully monitored and escorted to the Moot only for the duration of the discussion. The last time this occurred, however, was several hundred years ago during the Great War.
