Aurora Bridge

Long before the Sword of Clouds cut through spacetime, and even longer before the first nymph first stepped foot inside a spacecraft, it was said that humanity could travel through space on auroras: bridges of light between the moons and the planets.

These stories were ancient even during the Antiquity. They predate any historical records, and would probably be relegated to complete myth if it wasn't impossible to explain how humans managed to settle so many distant moons so long before the invention of space travel.

Theories and Speculation

The myths leave many questions, not least of them being: what did travelling by aurora mean? It isn't clear. The most literal interpretation is that ancient humans actually walked on the auroras. It is the best represented in art, as bridges of solid light between two celestial bodies. The visual is as spectacular, but unlikely. The idea of solid light has fascinated countless inventors throughout the ages. None of them have been able to create it. Physicists say it is impossible, though, they said that about teleportation too.

Even if it didn't require solid light and it was instead some property of the ancient humans that let them walk on air, the distance between two moons would have required an impossibly long migration. A long migration with no places to stop, with practically no food or forage, through unbreathable space.

Given these challenges, a more symbolic interpretation seems to be more grounded. Although it is possible that space worked differently in the very distant past, before the great apocalypse that Sol Invictus must've been, it is more likely that ancient humans navigated by the solar winds, and the concept became confused with auroras over time.

Nowadays, the most popular theory, given the recent invention of gateway portals and remote projection, is that humanity used the auroras to teleport. That the auroras transformed man into spirit, then carried them off on the wind. We know it is possible, and there are old stories among the humans of auroras being dangerous storms of spirits that whisk people away to distant worlds. It is not a stretch to then ask: were those stories literal?
